Title: speaking is not communication

A/N: "Towakke" means idiot.

When all was said and done, the war was over and everyone was left to pick up the shattered smithereens of their lives, they never asked each other the pertinent questions nor gave respective answers to them.

They had no need for honeyed words and promises of eternity.

Spoken proclamations of feelings are for people who needed to reassure themselves that these emotions are real.

They had no need for that.

So they simply stared into each other's eyes, windows to the soul each knew better than their own, across the physical distance which belied the true proximity of their hearts.

"I'm staying," was all he said, with a stubborn finality that suggested he had come to this decision after no consideration at all.

She sighed. She knew as well as he did that he had no choice in the matter. But she also knew that this was but his own way of promising her forever.

"Towakke," was all she said, with a confidence that said I don't need reassurance, but he gave it to her anyway.

So when he finally crossed the gate that separated their tangible selves but never the intangible, they don't say a word.

No questions about their status quo. (They never were the conventional type.)

Not even a goodbye. (Goodbyes are for those who'd never see each other again.)

Just a genuine smile.
