The Peach and the watermelon
She was just like her favourite fruit. A peach, which also happened to be her name. Momo. A delicate and fragile fruit, with soft skin. Soft, delicate skin, that looks like it could bruise or split from a small bump. Very sweet... But easy to crush and brake... Just like her.
He was just like his favourite fruit, a watermelon. Thick skinned, it's not easy to hurt him. Hard to crush, but once you've gotten through that harder exterior, you're left with the soft, sweet inside. Just like him. Once, you've gotten through that icy exterior, you're left with a sweet, kind, innocent boy. It just takes the right person to do it.
A peach and a watermelon, summer and winter, hot and cold, fire and ice. So alike, yet so different. But as they say, opposites attract.
It's obvious, how close they are... Both a blessing... and a sin. He protected her, they all knew that. Everyone knew, if you messed with the peach, you were messing with him. So they left her alone. Not wanting to deal with the icy Captain.
They knew that if the young Captain was in a mood, she was the one to send to him; just seeing her always seemed to cheer him up.
They keep each other happy, feeding off each others energies and keeping themselves balanced. But... They knew she was his weakness...
"S-Shiro-chan... Why...?" The weak, quiet, innocent voice of the 5th Divisions Lieutenant whispered, confusing and pain in her dull, brown eyes as her life and energy slowly seeped out of her. That memory, the memory of his childhood friend, after he had forcefully shoved his Zanpakuto through her chest, pouring all the hatred for the person he thought she was into it... Only to find out he had been tricked. It was not the person who had caused his childhood friend so much pain, it was the girl herself. He had been tricked into almost killing her. As soon as that had happened, he was out of the game just as quickly.
They knew, they knew the connection, how either would die for the other... They used that to their advantage.
As well as making each other stronger, they made each other weaker... It was always an unfortunate situation for them.
Just like their favourite fruit. She was fragile and easy to brake... He was thick skinned and hard to crush, unless you knew the right way to do it... And they had learned, that way was her.
