I'm doing a series of little stories that involve how the average character in the Avatar Universe. This first one deals with a Fire Nation Soldier and I hope you enjoy
Disclaimer: the show is not mine, these OC characters however are.
Ming-Shian stood quiet on the burning battlefield. He felt numb, cold despite the heat of the flames blowing across his skin. For months he had trained for this moment but now the gravity of his actions truly dawned on him. He had killed a man.
He was deaf to the cheers that were sounding around him; he didn't feel the resounding thumps and claps to his back as his comrades congratulated him. All he could see were those green eyes, blank with the film of death covering them. Only a few minutes before those eyes were shining and lively as the owner had leaped upon him. The fear in those emerald eyes mirrored his own, Ming- Shian was sure.
The gaze now was vacant in death but somehow, he could feel it fixated upon him. Looking at him, through him, seeing his tainted soul. He shivered, his comrades had gone, off to celebrate a victory hard won. He was alone with a dead man staring at him.
Did he have a family like he did? Ming-Shian wondered. Did he have a daughter who watched the window each day, waiting for her father to return? He hoped not, he did not want to be the man to rob a daughter of her only father. What made it right to kill this man? He asked himself as the sight of the dead man was burned into his memory. Why do we kill others when all our lives we have been taught to try and save them? What made this man deserve to die any more than me? He wondered.
His eyes were fixated on the man. It was a moment he had dreamed of but now, it was a sight he wanted to rip out his memory. As he rushed away from the body, Ming- Shian was suddenly struck with the thought that it would not be so different if it were his blank eyes staring over the burning fields.
