MAX POV:
Dawn. It's beautiful watching the sun rise. Right now, I can rest assured knowing that the rest of the flock are safe. Though I don't really trust Anne, the rest of the flock want to stay. I'm only letting them stay because they deserve to be happy after everything we've been through. I sigh and lean back on the roof of Anne's gorgeous house.
"Max?" Angel's voice came from behind me. "Yes?" I replied, turning around to fix my eyes on her. "I was wondering what you were doing," Angel asked. "Thinking," was my quick and simple reply. "We should probably get down, it's almost time for school," she smiled. I groaned. I didn't want to go through the torture of sitting down for 7 hours to learn things.
Angel laughed at my thoughts and jumped off the roof. I followed her, stretching my 13-foot brown speckled wings. I feel free and powerful when I'm flying. I love it! We flew through the window to our separate rooms. I looked around. I missed Jeb no matter hard I denied it. I knew I shouldn't, but this place reminded me of home when we were safe and not on the run.
I put an outfit on for school. Since it's the first day, I should probably wear something nice. I slipped on a black Nike hoodie and leggings. I looked in the mirror. Should I wear a necklace that Nudge gave me? Nah. I didn't want to make my outfit overly complicated. I slipped my hair into a fishtail braid and grabbed my Nike backpack. Hope Anne didn't try to cook again…
"Good morning Max!" Anne exclaimed as I walk through. I yawned. Maybe it was a bad idea to wake up at dawn. Iggy waved me over to the table where a delicious smelling meal was set. I immediately started drooling. "This smells AMAZING! How did you do this. You have to be some angel or something. I mean, you already have the wings!" I declared. Iggy laughed. I stared at the assortment of pancakes ranging from blueberry to banana, as well as the sausages, eggs, French toast, fruit salad, and cereal. I started to dig in as the rest of the flock slowly trickled in.
"Morning Max," came Gazzy's sleepy voice. "Morning!" I said as I stuffed my face. Angel laughed as she saw my ravenous expression. "Wow, you sure are hungry Max!" "What do you mean?" I complained. "I always eat like this." Angel laughed as she sat down next to me and started digging in. She moaned at the taste of the pancakes in her mouth. "This is soo good!" "I know right?!" I laughed.
I laughed and ran upstairs to brush my teeth. A minute later, I rushed out of the bathroom to stuff school supplies in my backpack. "…Laptop, pencils, paper, and pens! I have everything!" I smiled as I zipped my backpack closed. Today, the flock will not blow up anything and be on their best behavior. They had better.
10 minutes later, we were were school. It was huge, and when I say huge I mean GINAORMOUS! And, I'm not gonna lie, it looked intimidating. I know right? Me, Max, scared of a measly building? Sure, laugh all you want. I just had an uneasy feeling about this place.
"Scared Max?" Fang teased. "Shut up!" I growled. I stomped up the stairs and probably trampled some kids. Oops.. I stopped at the front of the school. My hand went to open the door. I paused. Was this a good idea? I looked back. Gazzy and Iggy were snickering and Fang had a smirk on his face. Why that little-! I swung open the door with so much force that the door almost flew off it's hinges.
"Welcome!" said a women in a blue dress. "I have your schedules. Please let me know if you have any problems getting to class. My office is up front if you ever need me!" She said as she handed out our schedules. "Awww yeah!" Gazzy shouted. "What?" "Me and Angel got the same classes!" Gazzy and Angel cheered. They looked too cute! I smiled. I looked back at the rest of the flock. Fang looked at Iggy. "I got the same classes as Iggy." Nudge wouldn't shut up about how many friends she would make. "I have a completely different schedule! That means I have to make new friends! I could be a real teenager! I'm so happy! Do you think they'll be any cute-" WHAP. I slapped my hand over Nudge's mouth.
I walked into class a few minutes late. "Max, is it?" said a mean looking teacher. "Yes?" I sighed. "Here is your seat." She pointed to the very front of the room. I sat down next to a girl with flaming red hair. She smiled and waved at me. The teacher then went on for a whole hour talking about expectations and stuff.
RING! RING! The bell sounded like heaven! I'm freeeeee! I jumped up and grabbed my books. The girl next to me tapped me on the shoulder. I jumped. "Hi! My name is Lissa! I can already tell that we are going to be friends!"
