Title: Maybe Tomorrow
Drabble: #43
Prompt: Crutch
Randomly selected pairing: Koumi
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon.
Notes: These two are too adorable for words. And before anyone starts yelling at me for appearing to leave out the prompt, the crutch is metaphorical.
Mimi closed her eyes and rested her forehead against the window, smiling sadly at the damp coolness. It was raining outside. Well, raining was a bit of an understatement, actually; it was chucking it down, and showing no sign of relenting any time soon. The winds were strong too, blowing the trees in every direction; no one in their right mind would go outside in such weather.
She guessed that that meant Koushiro wouldn't be coming home that day either.
For reasons he hadn't properly gone into, but Mimi knew it was something to do with his work, Koushiro had had to go abroad. This wasn't anything new; people as clever as Koushiro were needed everywhere, and not just in Japan. His trips could be anything from two days to two months, and he had said that this particular trip would be at the longer end of the spectrum. But before he'd left, he had stroked her hair and promised to return as soon as he was no longer needed.
And, three months on, it was those words which kept Mimi going. She knew she couldn't ring him because he'd left his phone behind, and he hadn't given her a number with which to contact his work. During the day she distracted herself by shopping and spending time with her friends, but by the time night rolled around there was nothing she could do but remember that she was going to be spending it alone.
He would come back though, that much she was sure of. He'd never been one for breaking his word, and if he knew what was good for him he wasn't going to start then. Mimi was just going to wait and she was sure that, soon enough, she'd hear the familiar jangle of keys again outside the front door.
