Tony/Pepper
Complete
A/N: I don't own anything.
Pepper Potts took a deep breath and pulled down the sun visor in the car to look at her reflection. Her strawberry hair was pulled perfectly into a tight bun; the dark knee length skirt and white up shirt were pressed into perfection. The make up that she wore was not smudged, although it did not do much except draw attention to her red eyes.
Pepper could honestly say that throughout the three months that Tony Stark was held hostage in Afghanistan she did not waste away waiting for the news that he had died. Sure, when the phone call from Rhodey came she hung up and then imagined her boss put into the worst situations her mind could create. She then spent the rest of the day sitting outside his bedroom door with his favorite bottle of scotch in her hands. When she had woken up her eyes were red and puffy and she had the head ach from hell. E-mails started pouring in. Pepper Potts made a decision that crying would not benefit anyone. After asking Jarvis not inform anyone of her little break down, she threw herself into work.
Instead of going to the Stark mansion that was located on beach front property in Malibu to do her job, she brought her laptop back to her apartment and took care of everything there. She didn't need reminding that Mr. Stark was halfway across the world in the hands of terrorists.
She was pretty damn proud of herself for controlling her emotions. It wasn't until she received another call from Rhodey three months later explaining that Tony Stark was alive and on his way home that she let herself go. At first Pepper didn't say a word, just calmly hung up her cell phone and then promptly fell to the floor in her kitchen with sobs that wrecked through her body.
That had been 26 hours ago. Now, she desperately smoothed out the skin under her eyes hoping that maybe that would help the redness disappear. It did nothing. She gave an aggravated sigh and pushed the visor back to its proper place and looked back to the skies for the plane.
When she saw the plane approaching she exited the car and joined the others that were standing around anxiously awaiting Tony Stark's return.
A few moments later, after the military plane had shut down the engines the door in the back opened; Pepper stood as high as she possible could in her heels to see. A sigh of relief left her body when she saw Tony Stark standing up out of a wheel chair with the only proof of imprisonment being the sling on his arm. He walked down the ramp and Pepper felt tears spring to her eyes once more. She fought a strange urge to run up to him and throw her arms around him, to make sure he was real. But she controlled the urge and told herself that it was just because she had worried about him. Nothing romantic. Nothing whatsoever.
Tony made his way over and only stopped when he was directly in front of her.
"Humm. Your eyes are red. Tears for your long lost boss?" He said, his trademark smirk that she had missed on his lips.
"Tears of joy, maybe. I hate job hunting." She forced her arms to stay at her side and ignored how after a moment or two Tony's smirk had disappeared.
"Yeah, well, vacations over."
Pepper nodded and returned back into the car with Tony leading the way.
A small smile was played on her lips. Tony Stark was back.
A/N: I'm considering posting another one shot where Tony would find out Pepper's reaction to his kiddnapping. Remember, she only asked Jarvis to keep it between them, that doesn't mean he could hid it from Tony.
So let me know. Reviews give me courage to keep going. :) Thanks for reading!
