I stepped out of the danger room, exhausted. I'd just defeated about twenty machine guns, by myself, because someone didn't come to practice with me. I walked down the hall and turned to the left, and stopped outside his door.

"Open up!" I yelled, furious. Like, what would be more important than training to survive? "I'm going to come in there if you don't open up!" No answer. I gently turned the handle, hoping something wasn't wrong.

The room was dimmed, with the television still running. Where was he? My eyes adjusted and I saw him, still under his tangled mess of sheets and blankets. He was so perfect there, his muscular arms showing out of the covers, I just wanted to lay there with him, but I didn't.

"Gambit." I whispered, but loud enough for him to hear.

He jumped up, half-awake, and looked around until he saw me. "Oh, hey Ro… Oh, no. I am so sorry!" He sat up in bed, the covers falling and revealing his chest, totally uncovered. I took a breath.

"Gambit, you punk. I had to fight off everything by myself!" I sat down next to him and looked at him with all my anger.

"Sorry, doll. Really, I am." He leaned over so that he was close to me, his shoulder rubbing against mine. I really want to kiss him. Right now. But we all know what's going to happen with that.

"Alright, but next time you aren't going to be forgiven." I started to get up, but Gambit's arm tightened around my wrist. He playfully pulled me back down next to him, and our eyes locked.

"You know Rogue, ever since you got here; I've wanted to kiss you." The words came out of his mouth faster than my brain could process it. He actually liked me?

I felt my lips lean in closer, but I pulled away. I looked at his face, with the perfectly chiseled jaw, and the eyes that felt like you were in the twilight zone when you looked through them.

"Come on, Rogue. I've been waiting for a long time." He said, with such sincerity that my heart flipped twice over.

I put my hands around his neck and I pressed my lips against his softly, my mind clear. He kissed me back, and for the first time, I wasn't sucking the life out of him.

I could touch someone.

Touch.

He broke away, and smiled. "See? It ain't that bad." I laughed, and kissed him again, loving it. He started to push his tongue into my mouth, and I played back, and soon I was devouring his mouth. He tasted like… playing cards.

He stood up, and hoisted me up, onto his waist. I could feel him getting excited, but I didn't care. I let him lower me onto the bed, and I kissed his chest.

Wait.

What am I doing?

I gently pushed away. "Gambit, please. Let us take it slow." I could see in his eyes that he didn't want to, but he did.

"Chere, would you like to take a walk?" He winked, and let me back down so I could get up.

"Would love to." I heard myself say, even though I was in a daze. He pulled a white shirt on, and we walked out of the room.

He wrapped his arm around mine, and I rested my head against his chest as we walked. We reached the doors that led outside, and I heard a giggle from behind me.

"Jean?" Gambit asked, as I turned around. Jean was there, and she was trying to conceal a smile.

"It's about time you two got together." She replied. "I-

A man's voice called her name from far away.

"Coming, Scott." She yelled, and she winked and walked away.

As I looked up at his face, his eyes closed and solemn, I knew.

We were meant to be together.
