Another Thomas rewrite, this time it's "Something in the Air" from Season 5, with added lines from tate310. Enjoy and comment.
One day, Thomas was waiting for some fish to be loaded into his cars. It took a long time to load all the fish up, because the fishermen were using very old equipment.
Thomas was worried.
"I'm going to be late! Henry doesn't like engines that are late, so please hurry up!"
Just then, a box of fish that was being loaded into Thomas' cars, dropped and landed all over Thomas!
"Yuck!" cried Thomas.
Thomas felt much better when they speeding along the coast. Then, a man waving a red flag ordered Thomas to stop!
"High tide has damaged most of the track." reported the man. "I've marked the spot where the track was damaged.
"We'll help you out!" said the driver.
They soon arrived at the spot where the tracks were damaged.
"These tracks are much too dangerous for heavy engines like Gordon and Henry, but it's safe for small engines like you Thomas." agreed the driver. "When we get to the docks, I'll tell them to close the line. It's much too dangerous.
The guard left a sign by the damaged tracks reading.
DANGER
HEAVY ENGINES MUST NOT PASS.
Henry was waiting anxiously for Thomas' trucks.
"You're late, and that smell is awful!"
"It's just fish!" replied Thomas, and there's danger on the rails! That's why we're late."
"Who cares about danger! Hurry up and get your cars hitched to my train!"
Thomas' driver and fireman were in the yardmaster's office, when they heard Henry's whistle! He was pulling the special fish train called "The Flying Kipper"
"What route is Henry taking tonight?" asked the driver.
"The coastal run. It's the quickest!" replied the yardmaster.
"Oh no! That's where the tracks are eroded!" gasped the driver.
Henry raced passed the signal box, whistling to James along the way.
"I'll soon make up for lost time!"
As they approached the coast, they had to slow down, because of heavy fog.
"I can't see!" cried Henry. Neither could his driver!
Then, there was trouble! As they approached the DANGER sign, the fog grew so thick, that it was virtually impossible to see! The driver applied the brakes, but it was too late! Henry derailed and fell straight into the sea!
As soon as the tide was high enough, Henry was craned out of the water. He was worried what Sir Topham Hatt would say to him.
He found out soon enough, Sir Topham Hatt arrived, very cross.
"I am very disappointed in you Henry." he said. "You have caused so much delay, that the merchants won't get their fish on time. What do you have to say for yourself?"
"The fog was heavy and I couldn't see sir." Henry moaned.
"Why didn't you have your headlamp on?"
"It was on sir, but it was no use in the heavy fog. That's why I fell into the sea."
"Engines don't swim Henry. The Kipper is to be used only for delivering fish, not for swimming with them. You know better than that."
"Yes sir. I'm sorry sir."
When Henry arrived at the docks, Cranky the Crane looked down on him.
"I expect you'll have some fishy tales to tell!"
Some children were looking down at the sea.
"Look! They've caught lots of fish, and a green whale too!"
"It's not a whale, it's a big scary monster!"
This made Henry very upset.
Thomas now felt sorry for Henry.
"Come on Henry! My driver says that it's time for you to go to the wash-down to get the fish and that smelly smell off you!"
Henry felt much better after the wash-down.
"I'm sorry I was so mean to you."
"That's alright! But can you smell something?" said Thomas.
"What?"
"Fresh air!"
"Oh yes!" replied Henry happily.
