The sun was a fiery orange ball in the Horizon. Its glow had tainted the surroundings and had dyed the young maple trees, scarlet red.

Two kids were chasing each other across the lush grass field. Their delightful laughter filled the air. They seemed to be flying, their cherub faces brushed against the cool afternoon wind. Tiny hands outstretched themselves sideward. They looked like two ducklings flapping their newly-developed wings, preparing for flight.

The little blonde girl paused and twirled her tiny body round and round. She liked spinning because it thrilled her. Slowly, she stopped spinning. Her head hurt.

Laughter erupted somewhere. She turned around to see her companion. A willowy boy with sandy yellow hair. He walked towards her. The grass, a carpet of pink against his red soles. The little girl watched him approaching, her heart was a complete chaos inside her chest. The curls of her hair swayed through the wind. He stopped a few meters away from her; he smiled his loop-sided smile at her and began to ruffle her hair.

"Yiii…!" she squealed.

"Catch me if you can, Rin!" the little boy yelled as he ran off. She fumed as she tried to smoothen her tresses back in place. She stared at the speck of yellow in motion. Something from below caught her eye; she looked down and blinked.

A yellow flower stood up from the foliage. She apt to pick it up. Her fingers ran lightly over the petals and her nose faintly smelling. Afterwards, she ran to chase him.

Her feet were killing her as she managed to ran beside him. She abruptly stopped to catch her breath. Sensing her presence from behind, he stopped a few seconds later and then went to her.

"Something wrong, Rin?" he asked, concerned. His voice rang like a bell as his blue eyes glistened with concern. The moment she gazed up at him, her mind went blank. She couldn't say a word. Awkwardly, he touched her heaving shoulder.

"Are you okay?" he asked again. Wordlessly, she raised the flower she had in her hand. The thing dangling directly in front of his face.

"Here," Rin said.

He was mesmerized by the flower in his palm. Glossy yellow petals reflecting the sunset were pretty in his eyes. In all his boyhood years, he had never seen a flower like this before.

"Thanks…" he smiled and securely set it inside one of his safety pockets.
