-------------------------------------------------------------

She remembers her prom night like it was yesterday. It was a night much similar to the present one. Roy was late. She thought he asked her as a cruel joke and was going to ditch her. He finally showed up with the wilted corsage he forgot to put in the refrigerator. It was pouring rain, but not the romantic rain that is perfect for kissing. It was the kind of rain that made it you depressed and was terrible to drive in. She'd sprained her ankle getting out of the limo and spent the entire night sitting at a table drinking punch that was probably spiked because she felt dizzy after a few glasses. She watched him dance with his football buddies and all the girls who lusted after him. She figured it was only one date, one night. But she was wrong. Dead wrong. The next years of her life was like a repeat of prom. He would go out and have the time of his life, while she sat at home. It wasn't until many years later she decided to get back at him for all the pain he put her though. She cheated on him. With her best friend. At first it was just to get back at him for being such an ass to her for so long. She figured he would appreciate her more if he realized he was about to loose her. Instead it came back to bite her in the ass. She fell in love. Roy was no longer the center of her world. She fell in love with someone she could share everything with and not worry about being judged. He paid attention to her and listened to her. She was in denial that their relationship was anything more that an affair. Then she lost him and suddenly her world became a little darker. Without him, she was unhappy and lonely. She finally gave Roy the boot and all he could say was "Hey, do what you want." So she did. She was driving in the rain to Stamford, hoping he wasn't completely out of reach already. She could barely see the road in front of her but yet her destination was clear. He was her destination. She should've asking him, begged him even, to stay when he told her he was leaving. None of that mattered now. She finally arrived at his apartment. She had to beg Mark to give him his new address. She got out of her car and stood in the rain wondering what she would say to him. She mustered up the courage to ring the doorbell. He finally answered. Their eyes met.

"Hey," she said to him, like they'd just seen each other a few days ago.

"Um. Hi," he responded.

"Can we talk?"

"Um. Sure. Come in." He let her into his new apartment. Her eyes hurt from crying almost the entire way there. She put a few drops of Visine in her eyes so it looked like she hadn't been crying, just in case he wouldn't take her back.

"It's over," she said, not wasting anytime.

"What is?"

"Jim, I love you. And I think you still love me, too. But I realized that I should've asked you to stay, or come with you. I'm nothing without you. You are the only thing that matters now. I broke it off with Roy, and I know I'm taking a chance by being here, but I don't care. "

"Pam, I…"

"I'm too late, aren't I?"

"No."

"No? No as in I'm not?

"Pam, what took you so long? I was expecting you weeks ago." He took her into his arms and held her while she cried tears of joy. He led her to his bedroom where they made love and fell asleep in each other's arms, listening to the thunder crash outside. For the first time in nearly 10 years, Pam felt complete.
