Marriage

By Rosemary For Rememberance

Bothersome. How is it possible they should try to order my fate for me, choose the path set before my feet? Can they not see? I am a soldier. The only road I follow is the road to war. My honor is my compass. I may tell a man, "Go, you must die for your country," but I am not bound by the orders of my superiors, I cannot be. One who gives orders should be the master of one's own life. I am bound only by the responsibility I have to those who, by following my orders, serve Gondor.

Gondor. My life is hers, hers and no others. It is for her I breathe, for her I bleed, for her I shall die in the end. They cannot understand. They choose not to see. How could I share my life with any other? How could I promise to love, protect, be faithful to any other mistress? I shall not make that oath. It would be a lie, a sham of a promise. On my honor, I could never do such a thing. I am spoken for. I have no love but Gondor. I have no life but Gondor.
