Despite being a rather attractive teenage boy-not to mention the only teenage boy-Zach Goode wasn't popular at the Gallagher Academy. In fact, besides Cammie and her friends, none of the students at Gallagher even acknowledged his existence. It probably had something to do with the icy, hard demeanor he'd had when Cammie was gone; that kind of attitude didn't exactly make friends.
You can imagine his surprise when, an hour after he'd kissed his girlfriend goodnight and left his other friends with a wave, there was a knock at his door. He jumped a bit (don't tell anyone) and stared dumbly at the door for a moment, before realizing that he had to actually get up and open it to find out who was on the other side.
He found his girlfriend, which confused him, though he didn't know why because Cammie was probably the most likely to be knocking at his door at any time of day.
He took note of her flannel pants and plain tank top - pajamas, obviously - and realized that he was currently shirtless, wearing only a stained pair of sweatpants. He hoped Cammie didn't notice the fairly obvious stain, then wondered when he had become such a girl.
"Um…" Cammie cleared her throat awkwardly, and Zach realized he'd been staring at her the entire time. "Can I sleep in here tonight?"
Zach blinked at her, not quite comprehending what she'd just asked. He must have been making some kind of face, because Cammie hurriedly explained that she didn't mean in that way and that she just wanted to get away from the girls for a bit.
The time it took for her to explain was enough time for Zach to snap out of his daze, so of course he was ready with a slightly inappropriate remark. "You just couldn't get enough of me, could ya? It's okay, Gallagher Girl. I've been missing you, too, for the past hour since I saw you."
She hit him lightly on the chest, and he smirked, stepping back to let her in. She immediately walked to his bed and plopped down on it, scooting over to leave room for Zach. He was a bit surprised by her boldness, but also sat. Cammie yawned dramatically and lied down on her side, pulling the covers up to her chest. Zach mimicked her actions, trying very hard to ignore the fact that Cammie smelled like heaven on earth. Not to mention her rather revealing tank top.
When they were all settled in, Zach simply stared at Cammie, a small smile on his lips.
After an awkward beat of silence, Cammie said, "You look pleased with yourself," and Zach chuckled.
"Well, there is a pretty girl in my bed."
Cammie rolled her eyes, and just like that, the awkwardness was gone. She leaned towards him and met him half way, smiling against his lips. They lay there for a moment-just kissing, nothing more-before Cammie pulled away and curled up against his chest. Almost reflexively, she wrapped an arm around his middle. Zach snuggled closer to her and wrapped both arms around her waist, their legs tangled together.
In that small moment, both of them were more content than they'd been in a long time. Cammie smiled happily and fell asleep almost instantly. For the first time since she'd gotten back, she didn't have any nightmares, and Zach didn't stay awake all night worrying about her. Briefly, before he fell asleep, he wondered why they didn't do this more often, because the feeling of holding her in his arms was one of the best feelings in the world.
Probably OOC. Oh well. I enjoyed writing it, and I hope you enjoyed reading it.
