Here I am.
Sitting across from her.
I feel so numb.
"Who do you wish to bury here?"
"My mother. Narcissa Malfoy."
She looked up at me and then back down at her notes.
"What sort of headstone would you like?"
"An angel."
"Anything special written on it?"
"Just the usual would be fine. Here lies so and so, born, and died…"
"You're taking this rather well."
"I am a Malfoy. Plus, I always knew they would die around the same time. I just don't think my father requires the same attention."
"That's rather harsh."
"And so was he. But my mother was not."
"Anything else on it?"
Her lack of interest threw me."
"Nope."
"Okay. The headstone will be ready in a few hours. Do you want a formal burial?"
"No. Just let me know when it's done."
"I'll owl you in a few hours then."
As I rose to leave I bade her goodbye and apparated home.
Three hours later…
There was a pecking at my window and as I rose to get it I got a sinking feeling.
It was time.
After giving the owl a treat and sending him on his way, I apparated to the cemetery.
Upon entering the gates I realized I did not know where she was buried.
"Follow me."
It seemed she materialized out of nowhere. I didn't even hear the slight pop that came with apparition.
As she led me to an unknown location I became more and more aware of why I was there.
My mother died.
"Here she is."
I felt my knees drop to the ground.
How had this happened?
The one person left in my family was gone.
Tears began streaming down my face as a handkerchief was hastily shoved into my hand and another person knelt next to me.
After what seemed like ages, I finally could see who was next to me.
Granger was kneeling on the ground silently staring at the headstone.
"I know you didn't say it, but I wanted to put it on there. She loved you very much, even if she didn't show it. I hope you don't mind."
She sounded a little worried, but I found that I didn't mind at all.
"Thank you so much. For everything. This means a lot."
"Coming from you , that means something."
I chuckled, causing her to look at me strangely.
"You laugh is nice. You should do it more often."
She looked back at the headstone.
"Thanks, I guess."
She laughed this time.
"I suppose this is rather strange. But I find I couldn't care less. If you need anything, don't be afraid to owl me."
"I won't. Thank you again."
"No problem. It's my job."
"You went above and beyond, like always."
"Just for you though." She smiled, "I'll see you around, Draco."
"You sure will."
She stood up and walked back the way we came.
I sat there for a little while longer and left thinking of new beginnings.
Here lies Narcissa Malfoy
Born 1955- Died 1998
Loving mother and war hero
I haven't had good inspiration recently and I have been super busy so I apolegize for the lack of update on my other story. Hopefully, I will come out of this slump soon because I hate not being able to write.
I'm not really proud of this story, but I felt like I needed to write it down to help with my writer's block. I also want to clarify that Hermione owns a funeral home, for some reason, in this story just so it would work better.
I would still like to know what you thought of it, so please review!
Thanks,
xoxo Becca300
