No one actually questioned his fear, why he was afraid of it. They thought it was just because he couldn't swim, and while that is a part of it, it held minor value in face of the actual reason.
And it was all Eggman's fault.
Despite his constant attempts to conquer the world and build his Eggman-land, no one actually died. While several many have been injured due to his antics none died because of those injuries.
All except one.
Sonic sighed as he sat alone in his house, besides him, the house was empty….
Well, almost empty.
His left ear twitched as the sound of water splashed down the hallway with a strange sense of rhythm. Thump, thump, thump.
Footsteps.
Droplets of water plucked to the ground, creating small puddles of water in the fashion of human footprints. He flinched as the water trailed closer to him, strands of liquid streamed up from the puddles, similar to that of the water creature, chaos. They gently touched his face, petting his fur with feather-light touches, the feelings of grief and longing for forgiveness overwhelmed him.
"_, it's not your fault." He told it, "I'm the one who should be asking for forgiveness."
The spouts of water lowered, engulfing his hand in a surprisingly warm embrace, the image of a smile appeared in his mind.
"But I am to blame." A voice said, "For all the pain you find yourself in."
The water lost its livelihood, falling to the ground with a pop.
"I'm sorry"
