An Act of Kindness

"Where would you like to go first Jasmine?" Nick asked her.

"I'm hungry, I want a cheeseburger and French fries." The child responded.

"Alright, lunch sounds good to me." Nick answered.

Nick was taking Jasmine on her father-daughter day out.

The summer had flown by and pretty soon the kids and Jackie would be back at school.

When Nick got to the fast food hamburger joint he realized he forgot his wallet, luckily though he had a $20 bill in his pocket.

By the time he paid for lunch all he had was a spare five bucks, just enough to buy Jazz an ice cream cone at her favorite ice cream spot if she wanted one after lunch.

As he sat across from the little girl Nick couldn't believe how big she had gotten, where had the time gone? It seemed like before he knew it she'd be in college, and he definitely didn't want to the think about that.

After they had finished eating Nick asked if she'd like to go for an ice cream and of course she said yes.

On the way to their truck they spotted a homeless man with a sign.

"Daddy what is that man doing?" She asked Nick innocently.

"Well, he is asking for money because he say's he's hungry." Nick responded as he read his sign.

"You should give him some money." Jasmine stated.

Nick smiled at her.

"I forgot my wallet at home kiddo, all I have is five dollars and if I give him that you won't get your ice cream."

'It's ok, we get ice cream all the time, give it to him." The child responded without a second's hesitation.

Nick felt his heart swell with pride.

It was everything he could do to hold back tears.

This child may look overwhelmingly like him over Jackie but that gesture was Jackie through and through. He smiled at the little girl and she just stared at him as if to say what's the big deal?

He dug the five dollar bill out of his pocket and he and Jasmine walked over to him, Nick positioned himself in between Jasmine and the man because you could never be too careful, his job had taught him that, as it turns out though he had nothing to worry about because the man was extremely grateful.

As Nick and Jasmine walked to Nick's truck they watched as the man walked inside for lunch.

Nick then got an idea.

He drove home and told Jackie what Jasmine had done and she too struggled to hold back tears of pride.

He then suggested that because Jasmine was so kind that the entire family should go get some ice cream.

Jasmine and all the other kids loved that idea as Nick knew they would, and before leaving the house this time Nick made sure he had his wallet.

The End!
