MARCH 10.

"Fiona Widdershins, I have a…job for you."

"Who are you, and what is it?"

"It's quite simple. I have specimens of a variant of Medusoid Mycelium. My employer wants them tested as a biological weapon. You are a leading expert on fungal biohazards. It's quite obvious- I want you to release some spores over a populated area or a confined area, possibly both."

"How much is it worth to you?"

"How does…10 million dollars sound to you?"

"Deal."

APRIL 11.

"Trans American Flight #101 now boarding. All passengers report to Gate 3." The intercom announced.

Moira Tucker perked up. Trans-Am #101 was her flight to Winnipeg. However, she was unaware of a dark conspiracy that was being executed right then.

Fiona Widdershins looked at her watch. Her new boss, an individual calling himself "The Invisible Man", had paid too much for her to do this. To ensure that his 10 million dollars were not being wasted, "I. Man" had rigged a lethal injection to Fiona's wrist-mounted PDA. Failure meant death. The lethal spores were in a pressurized canister, about the size of a small oxygen tank. The plan was to open the canister in flight, infecting all the passengers. The "gadget" was safely concealed in Fiona's travel bag.

Several miles away, The Invisible Man armed his agent's injection. If, in the event that his little "bug" on the canister alerted him that Fiona had attempted to destroy it, he could give her the injection and cause her to drop dead. The Medusa Project was his baby, his masterpiece, his magnum opus. Medusoid Mycelium, for all its stopping power, had a laughably common antidote- horseradish. Medusa Mycelium, the altered version that he had created, had no known antidote. It was the perfect bioweapon- lethal, airborne, and really incurable. Besides, with "Medusa", he could bring both sides of the V.F.D. schism to their knees. However, the injection could only be activated at his end.

Fiona Widdershins looked at her PDA. The injection was armed. It was time to arm the "spore bomb". A very well concealed Desert Eagle would aid if anything went wrong.

Several hours later, Trans-Am 101 was airborne. Once all passengers were allowed to use electronics in-flight, Fiona contacted her employer.

"Miss Widdershins, do not think that my patience can be tested. If you do not release the spores, that injection on your arm will be delivered." The Invisible Man calmly ordered.

10 minutes later, it happened. During the in-flight movie, Moira could swear she heard a gun being cocked. Just then, a bullet flew past her head.

"Don't move a muscle. I can- and will- detonate a container of Medusoid Mycelium spores on this aircraft unless you land immediately." Fiona announced.

Moira gulped. Just then, she started whistling a few bars of Mozart's 14th. Another gunshot was fired at her.

"I was in VFD way back when." Fiona replied.

Moira literally changed her tune to "Turkey in the Straw". The Desert Eagle fired again.

"Shut up!" Fiona yelled.

"You're as mean as that Count Olaf!" Moira wailed.
