Chapter One: Roxas
We were best friends.
That's what she always wanted.
It's what I wanted… right?
Now I'm not so sure.
Dragging myself to my room, I finally collapse onto my bed. What a long day at school… I want nothing more than to curl up under my checkerboard covers and sleep for day, but I have homework, as usual. An excited yet slightly irritating voice from downstairs completely severs my train of thought.
"Roxas? Rox, get down here!" Sighing heavily, I stand up and walk downstairs. I'm greeted by the pain-in-the-butt that I am required to call my twin brother. Judging by the pure excitement flooding his sapphire eyes, eyes identical to mine, I know exactly what he's going to say. Call it twin telepathy; call it a not-so-complicated brother, whatever you want.
"Let me guess… Kairi's coming over, and you want me to stay upstairs and leave you two alone…?" The overly excited bobbing of my brother's spiky brunette head is all the answer I need. Chuckling, I push his shoulder lightly, speaking over my shoulder as I head back upstairs. "S'okay Sora, I'll make sure I don't creep up on you two. Trust me, I don't wanna know what you guys are planning on doing down here…"
I know that gets to Sora, and I chuckle as I leave him, gaping mouth and all, downstairs. Oh, wait a second. If Kairi's coming over, does that mean Naminé is coming too…? I flip open my black and white cell phone, Two New Messages.
Rox, Kairi's coming over later, kay? ~ Sora
Oh, might have helped if I had read that before. Oops, whatever. Quickly, I move onto the next message.
Rox, wanna hang out tonight? I know Kairi's going to your place to hang with Sora, and I figured I could go with her? ~ Naminé
Always one step ahead of me, that Naminé. Chuckling to myself, my fingers dance over the keys as I type up a reply.
Nams, sure! Bring anything you might wanna do, and just come up to my room when you and Kairi get here! ~ Roxas
Snapping my phone shut and sliding into my jeans pocket, I look around my room. Oh boy, what a mess. Grabbing the haphazard piles of clothing on the floor, I open my closet and shove the messy pile in. I have to struggle with the door for a minute before it finally clicks shut. Note to self: DO NOT OPEN DOOR. I grab my black Nintendo DS and toss it onto my bed. Knowing Naminé, she would bring hers and want to play Pokémon or something. Not that she would win. I smile to myself as I think of her exasperated gasp when I beat her yet again. So now, what to do until she shows up?
Crossing to the other side of my room, I slide my black and white guitar off it's stand. The checkered strap slides over my shoulders and I pull at the strings lightly. Familiar tunes play across my fingers, though I can't name them. My fingers move of their own accord, playing whatever melodies they desire. My back is facing away from my door, so if Naminé comes in, I won't see or hear her.
As I finish some unnamed song, I hear faint clapping from behind me. I whirl around to see Naminé's cornflower blue stare focused on me. I run a hand through my messy straw-colored spikes, my cheeks flushing slightly.
"Oh hey, Naminé, when did you get here?" She looks down, covering her eyes with her bangs, as if embarrassed to interrupt me. She flashes me a grin though, and sets her purse on my bed. I laugh when I see her pink DS sticking out. I pick mine up and hold it, smirking widely. "Pokémon?"
