This is my second fic in this fandom. The first one was one I did for Christmas back in December. The plotline in Digimon Adventure where Gatomon becomes a good guy has been airing lately, and she's my favorite Digimon, so it got me phyched about the show again and inspired me to do some fics. And yes, I use the english dub names dispite knowing most of the original ones. I personally like them, and I used to them anyways. Honest critique is appreciated.

Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon. I'm not even sure who does anymore, but I beleive Toei and Jetix have a hand in it.

Eighth

"Then who's her digimon?"

Stupid question. Even as she asked it a part of her knew what the answer would be. She looked at her old friend with wide eyes. She heard him say something, and then she heard that same part of her that seemed to know everything pouring out a story of waiting and being lost and evil.

But, why was she saying all this? Her target was close enough to pull in and slit the throat of! What was stopping her!?

That's when the rest of her caught up with the part that had been speaking.

Waiting.

Always waiting and search for her.

For the eighth child.

For her partner.

The screen door slammed open and Tai was yelling. She was still a bit dazed, but a part came through clearly.

"Those are evil digimon."

It hurt like needles to her heart. What made it even worse was that it was the only way to say what she had become. She was evil. Evil. Evil. That word rang in her head and only stopped when she realized Kari was about to take a hit. She pushed her out of the way and took the hit she was supposed to take in the first place. As it should have been. Nobody kind like that is supposed to be willing to defend garbage like her. If she had known what the dugimon had been planning to do to her just minutes ago... This was all wrong. Nobody, especially Kari, should have been so nice to her, but she couldn't find it in her to run. She had the need to be by her partner's side and protect her.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. This is nothing compared to what I've been through."

It really set it right there. She heard that other part of her saying something again when it hit her. She wasn't evil anymore. She was free from him, and she had found her partner and her fate. She had found her dream.

Without thinking, she embraced her partner. Kari hugged her back and the digimon held in tears of joy. She had never been hugged before in her life. She had never understood why hugging existed, but now she had run into one with her new friend impulsively .

Friend.

Friendship.

The faith the digimon fighting with you cares enough to not abandon you when it gets hard.

The knowledge that somebody was worried about you coming back safely.

It was beautiful beyond words.
