A / N : Another challenge drabble! This time, a character I can't believe I'd ever forgotten my intense, er . . . dislike . ... of. Oh yes. It's Winky The House Elf. (I mean, really. Dobby and Kreacher at least had moments of defiance / hilarity. Winky, in the books, left me debating whether to claw my own face off, skip parts of my favourite book (no!) . . . or just drown her in a metaphorical vat of Butterbeer. Thankfully, Jo seemed to start thinking along similar lines herself, so I didn't feel too guilty.) But I'm getting off-topic. (Just trying to convey the difficulty of writing this one! )
Prompt: Write a drabble featuring a character/ship that you despise. This is NOT an opportunity for character/ship bashing. Instead it should be a serious attempt to portray the hated character(s) in a positive light.
Compulsive character bashing aside, here's my best effort! Surprisingly, I don't think it's too bad. But I'll let you be the judge of that. :)
She is scrubbing the flagstones, prattling at Master Barty - though he hardly seems to hear her. The Master's spells are too strong.
Master does not like to let his son think too much.
He says it is dangerous, and so Master Barty sits trapped in his own head. Observing.
It would break the mistress' heart.
"Bad," Winky says feverishly, scrubbing the floor. "Bad . . . bad . . . bad . . ."
"I was bad once," Barty murmers.
Winky screams.
Then his eyes unfocus.
Eventually, Winky convinces herself she has imagined it.
Later . . . she is silent.
