Summary: Bella goes on a camping trip with a couple wolves after she moves on from Edward when he left. But will it turn into more than that? Rated T for future chapters, may turn into M. Set in New Moon after Edward leaves. Bella already knows about the werewolves and Edwards vampires.
AN: I'm rewriting this to make more sense. The whole story doesn't make sense, so basically I'm rewriting the entire thing. And a special Happy Birthday to the homeless man I saw on my way to the store with a sign that said 'It's my birthday this week, the best gift is a smile'. I know you probably won't be able to read this, but happy birthday to you, you fabulous human being!
Disclaimer: I'm not Stephanie Meyer, simple enough don't you think?
Quil's POV
'Bella seems to be a lot happier since Dickward and his Brady Bunch left. She's smiling a lot more and she's even laughing.' I think to myself as I drive her through the La Push Reservation, my home, in her red monster. She has sternly reminded me on many an occasion that it's not a monster, "Just a little old." As she put it. Either way, it needs a tune up at least, since she refuses to get a new one, claiming it has sentimental value because, once upon a time, it was Billy Black's. Billy Black is a close friend of Bella's father, Chief Swan of the Forks Sheriff Department.
I look over at her sitting in the passenger seat, her legs curled beneath her petite form as she stares out the window and into the forest. Part of me feels like she's zoning out, drowning out the real world so that she can think. Though most of me knows that she's looking for Jake, Billy's son and her childhood best friend. She hasn't seen him since that phasing problem in Billy's backyard. I laugh quietly at the memory.
Bella was so freaked out and worried about Jake so she came to Billy's house one morning. Billy opened the door slowly, his wheelchair making it difficult. I don't quite remember how he got in the chair, but he's in it and he doesn't complain. She walked straight through his door and right past Billy while he was trying politely to get her to leave. She refused, saying she was sorry but she needed to see Jake. She walked into Jake's room, and apparently saw him lying on his bed asleep, because that's what she told us.
Through his window, Bella saw Jared, Embry, Paul, and Sam come out of the forest and totally ran out there and yelled at them. She told them how Jake never wanted to be a wolf, though she didn't know he was one at the time. She kept saying how they weren't helping him and how they should leave Jake alone because they scared him, too much to make him say it outright. The boys laughed at her comment, though some more silently than others.
Paul said something really dick-ish like always which resulted in him getting a gigantic slap on the cheek from Bella. Sam tried to Alpha Order him to not phase but it didn't work, Paul phased into a furry wolf right there in front of Bella, tail and all. Bella ran back to the house just as Jake was running out to save her. She yelled at him to run, seems like it was the most logical thing for her to do at the time.
Jake ran towards her and the others and jumped over her, phasing in the process. Bella made it to the house when she saw what happened. She was in utter shock that her best friend just changed into a furry beast right in front of her, anyone would be. Jake, never looking at her, ran into the forest then and hasn't seen her since. Sam made Embry take her back to Emily's house afterwards. Apparently, Embry put up no fight as he picked up a scared-stiff Bella and walked back to her truck, driving her to Emily's house.
From what I heard, Paul ran off, disappearing through the tree line while Embry was driving away. Sam phased as well and went into the woods after the other two. I guess he let them fight it out, because they were both sore for a couple of hours.
I know it's hard for Bella and Jake. Not seeing someone for a couple weeks and thinking they're sick is one thing, but not knowing if they're fine but knowing they're avoiding you hurts way more. I can feel Jake's emotions whenever someone brings up Bella or the backyard incident. Sometimes it's like he never wants to see her again, even though we all know it's killing him not to know it she's ok or not. Other times he's a love-struck idiot, always talking about how amazing she is.
We drive through the forest for a little longer and I attempt to strike up a conversation, the silence starting to irk me. I've never been one for silences, my mom always said when I was younger there could never be a quiet moment in the house if I was there. She told me the only silence that graced the house was when I was out or when I was asleep, which wasn't often. I was an energetic kid, mostly due to all the sugar the other boy's moms let us eat.
"So are you excited to be coming camping with us?" I ask, throwing a smile in her direction. She turns her head to me, the ghost of a smile crossing her features for a split second before she becomes neutral again. She was better after the leeches, but she became worse than even then after Jake. He was her sun, she was always smiling around him, always laughing. He's who got her better after the vamps left, but when she lost him, she had no one.
"Yeah. It'll be fun." She doesn't sound very enthusiastic at the moment, I guess she's still a bit upset from Jake avoiding her. I know I would be if I were in her place. Actually, I wouldn't be if I were in her place cause either way I'd still be a wolf and I'd know what he was going through when he didn't see her. He didn't want to hurt her because of his newfound strength as a supposed fairytale creature. We drift back into silence, the only noise coming from the tuck's engine that needs replacing. It sputters once and a while and sometimes I think it might stop completely.
