A/N: Sorry I haven't been updating...I've been really busy and I've gotten a slight writers block, so any ideas are helpful. This is my first songfic ever, so be nice. It's the song from The Muppets Christmas Carrol: When Love Is Gone. It's one of my favs, so I thought I'd base it around Kate and Jack. (shock horror)
Disclaimer: I do not own Lost, this song or the movie or anyone in it.
There was a time when I was sure
that you and I were truly one,
that our future was forever
and would never come undone,
and we came so close to being close...
and thought you cared for me
there's distance in your eyes tonight
so we're not meant to be.
Kate stared out from her veranda, watching Jack mucking around with a football. She thought back to the times when they would spend the evenings just being lazy, talking and staying up late. Now his father pushed him into being a doctor, and they never had that time together. She thought back to one night.
"Jack…remember, when we were kids…" Kate started, but he wasn't looking at her.
"I'm sorry Kate…I've got a lot of work to do…" he said, staring down at some files.
She nodded slowly, and then walked into their bedroom.
The love is gone,
the love is gone,
the sweetest dream
that we had ever known.
The love is gone,
the love is gone,
I wish you well
but I must leave you now alone.
She sighed, and then turned into the house, the bags already packed. She stopped for a second, remembering the good times, but then she thought about the future. How would it be, to be married to a doctor and never spend any time with him?
There comes a moment in your life
like a window, and you see
that your future is there before you
and how perfect life would be,
but adventures call with unknown voices
pulling you away...
Be careful or you may regret
the choices you made someday...
He walked into the house and saw the bags, a worried expression on his face. She looked away, tears filling up in her eyes.
"I'm sorry," he said, not really knowing what for.
"You're not the person I need Jack…I'm leaving. I can't stand here and watch you come and go. You're too busy, I'm sorry, I just can't" she said, not looking at him.
"Don't leave!" he cried, grabbing her arm.
She yanked it away and grabbed her bags, running to her car.
When love is gone,
when love is gone,
the sweetest dream
that we had ever known.
When love is gone,
when love is gone,
I wish you well
but I must leave you now alone.
She started the car, and drove for an hour before reaching a suitable hotel. When she'd booked in she sat on her bed, crying, not knowing if she'd made the right choice or not.
It was almost love,
it was almost always,
it was like a fairytale we'd live out
you and I.
And yes some dreams come true,
and yes some dreams fall through...
and yes the time has come
for us to say goodbye.
Yes some dreams come true,
and yes some dreams go trough...
yes the time has come
for us to say goodbye.
Someone knocked on the door, and she quickly wiped away her tears.
"Who is it?" she asked her voice scratchy from crying.
"You okay?" A man's voice floated through the door, his accent a thick, southern drawl.
