Annabeth Chase POV

"Percy," I whispered. He was standing at the edge of that horrible pit, controling the poison, killing the goddess Akhlys. A death of a thousand poisons. His eyes burned with rage. His face was twisted in a horrible way, full of anger and bitterness. What hurt even more was that his expression was the same one Luke used to wear back during the Titan War. It was full of the same emotions. I couldn't take it.

"PERCY STOP!" I shouted. But he didn't. He kept his horrible eyes on Akhlys. The poison was almost covering her body. She gagged on the fumes. Her entire body was bleeding.

"Stop," she choked. "Please..."

Percy let out one last scream. He threw his arms over his head, causing a huge tidal wave to consume the goddess of misery. When the poison parted, there was nothing left of Akhlys, except for a dark pool of blood, and a pile of flesh.

Silence filled the air of Hell. Percy was breathing heavily and angrily, still glaring at the remains of Akhlys. Then he glanced up and saw me, staring at him, terrified. He took a step closer to me.

"Annabeth." There was no anger in his voice. Only concern.

"Annabeth," he repeated as he took another step closer to me. I stepped away.

"No," I whispered hoarsely. I shook my head slightly. "No..."

It was his turn to step back... right into Akhlys. He turned slowly to the pile then back at me, as if just realizing what he had done.

"Oh gods, Annabeth..."

"GET AWAY!" I screamed. Hot tears spilled out of my eyes. "You

monster..."

He took another step back. Then another. His eyes were wide. Then he turned back and ran away, into the darkness of Hell.

"No... NO STOP!" I shouted. But he didn't. He just ran, farther and farther away.

Tears spilled down my eyes even faster.

"Come back."
