This is called One Tin Soldier.
An ancient silver tabby tom was curled in his nest, his fur patchy and thin. His green eyes were clouded and sightless with age, though at one point, when he was younger, he could see.
Three kits, a silver she-cat, a brown tom, and a brown she-cat, bounced into the den. "Grandpa Blade, tell us a story, please."
"Silverkit, Treekit, Barkkit, don't bother your grandpa." A ginger and white she-cat entered. "Sorry, Father, for their imprudent nature."
Blade purred, "Don't worry about it, Sunsplash. I would love to tell them a story. One I haven't told anyone. It was before I joined RiverClan, a place far away from here. Their were two groups of cats, the Mountain Kingdom and the Valley Kingdom.
"The Mountain Kingdom had quite huge stone in the middle of their camp. It was common knowledge that there was treasure under it, but we weren't sure what it was. My sister, Shot, speculated that there was many gold rocks under it."
Barkkit asked, "What's a gold rock?"
Blade fixed his blind gaze on her. "Gold rocks are stones the color of the sun. They sparkle in the light and are very beautiful. In the two kingdoms there were many wars which were fought for them.
"There was a meeting of the king, elders, and high knights, which I was invited to. King Falls swore in the name of the sun, moon, and stars that we would get the treasure."
"My squire, Slope, was the one who sent the message to the king of the Mountain Kingdom, King Icicle. He was told that if his kingdom didn't give us all the treasure under the stone that we would attack and not show any mercy. Slope came back, saying that King Icicle said that his kingdom would share the riches under the stone."
King Falls was furious, as was everyone else." Blade almost purred, "I'm pretty sure the Mountain Kingdom could hear our yowls of anger. Commander Night said, 'Sharpen your claws, practice fighting moves, for tomorrow we go to war.' Everyone was going to fight, the king and queen, mothers, even the kits. We attacked at dawn, killing every cat we encountered. I remember getting wounded everywhere and then I was standing over the crest of the hill. In the noon light I saw blood and bodies. The entire hill was red, not a speck of another color. The reek of death hit my nose. I was the only survivor. I pushed the stone aside and was shocked by what was under it. There were no gold rocks or diamonds or even rubies. All there was were two vertical scratches in the earth, spelling out 'Peace for all.'"
"I stayed there all night, resting from my injuries, before getting up the next morning. I had to get away from this place of death. My fur cleaned up, I padded away toward the sunrise, my pelt gleaming like tin." Blade blinked. "Let this be a lesson to you. Do not be greedy. Do not cheat others. Do not hate. And whatever you do, do not try to justify it to StarClan; there is no justification for what I did, and I suffered."
I remembered singing this song in choir and decided it would make the perfect songfic. It's my first one. The lines are th breaks where the lyrics would be inserted. Feel free to look the song up.
