Sakura didn't know when she started feeling fat and stopped feeling pretty. She had felt that way for so long, It was hard to imagine feeling any other way.
She was 14 years old and 118 pounds. She had pink hair down to the middle of her back and big emerald eyes. She was short for her age and had a round face.
She wanted to be skinny and pretty like the models in magazines. She didn't understand that her wish was materialistic and influenced heavily be her "best friend" Ino Yamanaka.
Ino was blonde haired with long legs and a thin waist. She had a very developed chest and seductive eyes that allowed her to look older than she actually was. She was what every 14 year wished they looked like.
So Sakura went about finding ways to be thin and gorgeous. She tried all the latest diets, exercised more, tried diet pills, and even went as far as trying to starve herself.
But what Sakura lacked was self control. When she was mad, she ate. When she was sad, she ate. When she was happy, she ate.
She was what most people would call healthy. When she pigged out it wasn't junk food, it was fruits and veggies, crackers and cheese. She also exercised by taking a dance class.
But Sakura did not want to be healthy, no she wanted to be thin, pretty, boney, gaunt. So she cried about being fat and cried about being ugly, when in reality she was beautiful, young, healthy, vibrant.
Sakura was also in love with a boy by the name of Sasuke Uchiha. Which only caused to lower any self esteem she possessed. She was competing with hundreds of girls for the love of one boy. Hundreds of thin, pretty, and fake young girls.
But she was different from then. She was his team mate, which allowed her to spend more time with him than the other girls. But she did not squeal when she heard him coming, she did not stare dreamily at him while he trained with his shirt off.
No, she greeted him with a polite nod and a murmur of "Sasuke-kun". She trained with him, instead of sitting on the sidelines. Of course she was no where near as strong as him, or even Naruto, but she tried her best.
And in the end, that's all someone can do. No, Sakura may not have been bone thin, or gorgeously luscious, no these things Sakura was not, but she was different from then on a different level.
While others chased Sasuke Uchiha, she captured. While others dreamed of Sasuke Uchiha, she was a part of his dreams. While others loved Sasuke Uchiha, she was only one who was loved back.
And that alone made her more special than everyone else.
