I don´t own Harry Potter

Godrics Hollow, 11 p.m.

"James Andrew Potter!" She yelled. "Where have you been?!"

James flinched. This wasn't good. "Lily-love, I just met Sirius and you know, we lost track of time."

"Don't 'Lily-love' me! What were you thinking? I was worried sick that you had run into some Death Eaters, that you are in St. Mungo or maybe even dead!"

"Lil, please, I promise – "

"You promised every other time! Six times! What happened to those promises?!"

"Lil –"

"You could have told me or sent a message, that you were going to be late! But no! Nothing!"

"Love –"

"I wish you sweet dreams on the couch tonight", she said sarcastically and stomped to the bedroom. Thud! She slammed the door loudly.

James sighed. He hadn't seen her so angry for three years. He huffed and went slowly to the couch in the living room. This was going to be very long and uncomfortable night.

Next morning

Lily went to get the groceries, still angry and frowning. She wasn't paying attention and her bag fell to the floor. She cursed quietly. The shop assistant, an old kind lady, smiled at her and asked what was wrong. Lily really needed to talk to somebody, so she explained that her husband was always late, she was worried sick, and that he promises and then breaks the promise again.

The lady smiled. "I will give you some very good advice. My husband was the same. But now, he never forgets. So, the advice is…"

A few weeks later

Lily smiled. James was late. Again. He had managed to keep his promise for six weeks. However, he forgot today. He was supposed to be at home by six. It was quarter past ten and he still hadn't shown up. No message, no call, nothing. She sighed and turned over the page in her favorite muggle book.

James was late. He knew it. And he knew who was waiting for him. She was certainly going to castrate him. He was sure. Or maybe not. She had said something about children in the future. Oh, don't get distracted. He had to try to save his own life before he could imagine about trying for a child with Lily. He opened front door and he crept quietly to the kitchen. Nothing. Peace and quiet, no dinner, no angry Lily. He was confused. There was light in the living room. Lily sat in the armchair on her legs, with a book in the lap and she was smiling lightly.

"Hello Love." He tried carefully.

"Hi." She nodded absentmindedly. And still nothing. No tears, no yelling, no frown.

He stood there and stared. What the hell have happened?

Lily looked at him and said. "If you are hungry, you have to make some toast yourself. I expected you to eat with Sirius."

What!? She wasn't worried? She didn't care? I could be dead, he thought.

Lily yawned, stretched and told her dumbfounded husband, "I'm so tired, I am going to the bed. Night."

She didn't miss me, James thought miserably. She might think that she was better without me. She might have more fun without me… Wait, what was she doing here, when I was with Sirius? Maybe partying. Oh Lord, I just hope she is with Alice and not some man. But…. What I am going to do?

James has never been late again.
