AN: I do not own Soul Eater.
"You sure this is the right place?" Maka took a few steps backward, taking in the humble sign and shop. 'Phở House'.
"Yeah. Some people were talking about it in class." Soul pulled her gently along, into the noodle house.
Already, there were a few people waiting for them. Death the Kid was blabbering animatedly on, Patti and Liz looking like they were ready to riddle the place with holes. At the sight of Soul and Maka, they immediately became attentive, grins on their faces.
"Hey, guys! You see Black Star and Tsubaki yet? We're starving." Liz tilted her head in Patti's direction, whose stomach was making sounds akin to an unhappy tiger.
"No, in any case, we'd probably hear them first," Maka replied, a wry grin on her face.
"YAHHOOOO!" The door was nearly knocked off its hinges.
"Speak of Shinigami, and Shinigami shall appear." Kid chuckled.
"Hi, Black Star, Tsubaki," was Maka's greeting, while the others simply waved, mock-saluted, smiled, or a combination of all three.
"Hello, everyone. Were we late?"
"No, we were just about to order. Need a menu?" Liz waved a menu, while Patti doodled in the border of the order sheet. Several hands reached for a menu: Maka, Soul, and Black Star.
Tsubaki shook her head. "No, I've been in places like these before; I know what's usually good."
"Oh? So what do you recommend?" Maka asked, wary as she looked at the foreign words.
"Well, these are spicy, so avoid them, but for starters, this is a basic-"
It ended with the group trusting Tsubaki's taste. Some smoothies and bubble teas were available, so people decided to split them in case they weren't good.
Eventually, a plate arrived with the drinks, some limes, a pile of beansprouts, some mint and other herbs, and some small red peppers. As the server walked away, quite a few stomachs were grumbling that this would be gone fairly quick if the food didn't come soon.
Patti gingerly picked up one of the peppers, scrutinising it before taking a tiny nibble. Almost immediately, she dropped it and gulped down her glass of water, reaching for Liz's when that was drained.
While the others were still chuckling about this, Black Star had picked up one of the peppers, a determined look in his eyes. Tsubaki almost immediately noticed.
"Black Star, I don't think that's a good idea." Tsubaki spoke carefully, eyeing the pepper with apprehension. The others also watched, their faces also varying mixture of fear and eagerness.
"Please," Black Star scoffed, "I stand above gods!" with one *chomp* all that was left was the green stem."Heh, see, no problem at all!"
The other members of Spartoi observed while Black Star continued chewing. Slowly, his face became flushed.
"...Can I have some water?"

AN: The eating parts were both true, and tone is about right as well. This involved a couple of my friends, two watching, one whose curiosity got the better of her this time around, and one who believed that that her homeland's spice and mine have the same type of 'heat'. A humourous blow to culinary ego.
XD, if only they'd known beforehand... literally translated, the name of the particular pepper is 'mean pepper'. My mum used 'meanie pepper', so I guess 'bully pepper' would work too, but whatever name you use, it gets some of the message across.
R and R, please?
