Timeline/Spoiler: Clip from current "This November on Bones" commercial so, uh, some future season 4 episode.
Disclaimer: I wish I owned them, but I don't.
"Are you sleeping with my daughter?" Max's words stun him for a millisecond.
"No." He says, hoping his voice doesn't sound as high pitched as it does in his head. As if he'd never thought about it, dreamt about it. How her body would feel pressed against his, their lips fused together. Sometimes in the midst of some lengthy or overly scientific explanation he'd find himself watching them instead of actually listening to what she was saying. The way she'd bite her lip inbetween words, how her lab coat would pull as she emphasized a point, and - when she finally realized he wasn't paying attention - the way her neck moved as she tilted her head in his direction.
Wait, had Max said something else? Was he gay?! He snorts; there'd be no question if Max could hear half the thoughts running through his head. His mouth goes dry and his 'no' slips out in a whisper.
"I, uh, should go." He says after a moment, nervously running his hands through his closely cropped hair. "They should be ready by now."
Max swallows a laugh as Booth goes off in search of her. He'd tried to hide it, force it back so Max couldn't see, but it was as clear in his eyes as the sun streaming in from above. The concern, friendship, respect, and, yes, love he had for her. It was all there. It spoke volumes. Max smiles and sets off down the hall. It might not happen tomorrow, but one day the answer to his question would be a resounding yes. He was sure of it.
