Takes place Season 1. Merry whatever you celebrate and have a Happy New Year!
I don't own the characters or the show.
'Twas the night before Christmas on Providence base
Rex was working on decorating his space.
The stockings were borrowed from Holiday's room.
They couldn't get a tree so they used an old broom.
Hanging from the rafters were crepe paper galore,
recycled from the last party. Hey, they were poor.
Bobo in his Fez and Rex with goggles on hand,
Had just settled down to work on what they had planned.
Gifts were needed to be presented the next day,
So making homemade crafts were their only way.
When out of no where the EVO alarm sounded;
Again their plans were about to be confounded.
Grumbling about the unfairness of it all,
Rex still flew out of his room to answer the call.
Making it to the hanger in record time
Appearing before Six with his partner in crime.
Six pushed them onto the Keep to get to the place,
Where an EVO was rampaging in public space.
Arriving at the scene, they found a big mess.
Rex formed his smack hands and approached with finesse. (Yeah right!)
As Rex walked through the debris, an EVO attacked.
He punched and he kicked but in the end he got smacked.
He crashed through the window breaking the panes and sash.
Getting up, he decided to take out the trash.
But a little boy came and got in his way.
"Hey, kid step aside I have to save the day!"
"No mister, please," the little boy said sadly.
"That monster is my mom. Don't treat her badly."
Rex paused in mid-strike and stared at the creature.
"Perhaps there's another way that I can reach her."
Rex rescinded his build and approached with care.
He approached her slowly so he would not scare.
"Don't worry lady, I'm not going to hurt you.
But trust me please," said Rex trying to get through.
The EVO tensed and looked like it might try to flee.
"Mom, let him help. I want you to come home with me!"
The monster eyed the child as if she understood.
Rex held out his hand to change the bad to good.
In a flash stood a woman who fell to the floor,
The son hugged the lady who was herself once more.
Rex stood silently watching the heart-warming sight
A hand on his shoulder brought him back to this night.
"Good job. Now let's go home," Six announced to him
Who quietly agreed but was nonetheless grim.
Seeing the boy and mother he wished for the same
Someone who loved him and who would call him by name.
Going home he was silent even to his friend.
Thinking of another Christmas alone to spend.
Arriving back home he trudged back to his place.
But was told by Six to go and show his face.
A debriefing meeting he must go attend,
Rex complained but was too tired to contend.
So into the conference room did he appear,
But what awaited him dropped him on his rear.
The room was decorated with silver and gold,
Plus a tree with presents, quite a sight to behold.
"This for me?" Rex asked not knowing what to say.
"Merry Christmas from all of us," said Holiday.
Rex grew misty eyed for all of a second.
Then to his friends he did beckoned.
"Let's party people, without any delay!
I am with my family this Christmas Day!"
So wherever you are and whatever you believe,
I hope the spirit of the day is what you receive.
This was one of the hardest things I have ever written so far. I am no poet. It took me two months to get this down and even now I think I could have done better. Yeah, no more poems for me, too hard. So hope you like it.
I will be spending Christmas this year with the in-laws who live down in the Lone Star State. Hope this season finds you healthy and at peace. But if not, know that there is always hope for that in the coming new year.
God bless.
