"ONE WAY TO PUT IT"
'Hey, Bones.'
'Jim.'
Jim? Conscious and relatively unharmed, few minor injuries already tended –
'What are you doing in my sickbay?'
Not that I mind, of course.
'I came to check on Spock –'
Oh, of course.
'How is he?'
Why do you even care? That green-blooded bastard nearly fuckin' strangled you!
'I'm doing my best, Jim.'
'Is something wrong –'
Everything is wrong, Jimmy. 'Cause that damn ship exploded for no damn reason with half of the crew and the rescue team still on board, and I almost lost ensign Tam, and she'll probably have to go back to Earth anyway, and then there were that two poor Corridan(1) guys you probably shouldn't be too concerned about, not you crew and all, but they did die on me, and I've been in the OR for fourteen hours straight, and Jocelyn called and I got drunk last night – alone, 'cause you were playing chess with Spock and didn't want to be disturbed, and I actually haven't talked to you properly for almost two weeks and –
'But he's gonna be OK, is he?'
Well, otherwise you've wasted all that efforts to befriend the hobgoblin for nothing, and that would be damn shame.
'He is in no danger, Jim. It's just there's little I can do now but monitor his healing trance.'
'Take care of him for me, will you?'
'Did you just question my expertise?'
That's my goddamn duty, you know. To take care of your crew. To keep you safe. That's what I'm here for, when you come to think of it.
'Thanks, Bones'
'Anytime, kid'
Whatever makes you happy…
Now, I'm all for happy reconciliations, I'm just not so good at writing them. So if someone wants to finish this one for me or even consider it an outline for a full-length story, I will actually be glad, so help yourselves)))
(1) Corridan is actually a planet from TOS "Journey to Babel". Not that I'm sure how to spell it ;-)
