Am I better off dead?
Am I better off a quitter?
They say I'm better off now
Than I ever was with her
As they take me to my local down the street
I'm smiling but I'm dying trying not to drag my feet
"C'mon dude. This will help you forget her," said my best friend Geoff Reynolds.
"Yeah, you're too good for her," said my other friend, Trent Smith.
I just smiled sadly as they drove me to the nearest club. Alcohol couldn't help this problem. I still loved her.
"Maybe your right guys," I said.
They say a few drinks will help me to forget her
But after one too many I know that I'll never
Only they can't see where this is gonna end
They all think I'm crazy but to me it's perfect sense
"Just a couple of drinks man," Trent said.
After a few drinks I started to see her face every time I closed my eyes. I bet they could see how it was going to end when I started shouting her name.
"Hey man, maybe you've had too many," Geoff said.
"Calm down dude," Trent shouted once I started to walk out shouting her name.
And my mates are all there trying to calm me down
'Cause I'm shouting your name all over town
I'm swearing if I go there now
I can change her mind turn it all around
And I know that I'm drunk but I'll say the words
And she'll listen this time even though they're slurred
So I dialed her number and confessed to her
I'm still in love but all I heard
Was nothing
With shaky fingers I dialed her number.
"Duncan?" she asked once she answered.
"Courtney," I breathed.
"Duncan? Are you there?" she asked when I didn't respond.
"Can you come get me?"
"Where are you?"
"The park."
"I'll be there soon," she said.
"One more thing. I love you Courtney," I told her.
So I stumble there, along the railings and the fences
I know if we're face to face then she'll come to her senses
Every drunk step I take leads me to her door
If she sees how much I'm hurting, she'll take me back for sure
I stumble along the railings to a bench to wait. I knew if she saw me that he'd take me back. If she sees how hurt I am she'll take me back.
"Duncan?" I heard her shout.
"I'm here," I shouted back.
"Do you want to talk?" she asked once she sat down.
"This bench," I said.
"Huh?"
"This bench. It's were we first met. It's were we had our first kiss. It's were you broke up with me."
Was nothing
"But it's also the place for one last thing," I said as I got on one knee.
"Duncan," she said as she covered her mouth.
"Courtney Michelle Miller, I've loved you from the first time I saw you. It's always and will always be you. The first day we met I had just gotten out of juvie. You had the most beautiful smile while you were with your friends. You told me to get lost. If all you remember is fighting it won't happen anymore. If it's the little things you miss I'll bring them back. Will you marry me?" I asked as I pulled out the ring.
"Duncan. Yes I will marry you," she said as tears went down her face.
I put the ring on her finger and we walked hand in hand toward our new life.
