I just found out that "How to Rock" won't be renewed for a second season. Which is a serious disappointment in many respects, but especially because it sounds like we'll never see Nelson and Grace dating. I don't know what the series finale is actually like, but I do know how I'd like their story to conclude. So I gave a shot at writing it.
Nelson walked Grace back to her front porch, each of them in an unusually quiet mood. As they reached the top step, they turned toward each other. Nelson gave a tentative smile.
"Good night Grace."
"Good night Nelson."
Nelson held her gaze for a second, and then started to turn away. Grace touched him on the shoulder, stopping him abruptly.
"Wait."
As Nelson looked back in confusion, Grace hesitated… then quickly grabbed Nelson by the neck and gave him a hard kiss. It started out a little messy on both sides, but the couple quickly relaxed into a passionate embrace.
When Grace let go, about four minutes later, Nelson had the appearance of being very dazed… and very happy. Grace blushed deeply, and could not help but smile. Nelson looked at Grace for a second, and blurted out,
"Will you marry me?"
Grace stared incredulously at Nelson for a moment, and then responded,
"Nel-son!"
As Grace spoke Nelson's name in an exasperated tone, Nelson clapped both of his hands over his mouth. His face turned beet red, and his mind refused to believe that he had just said that out loud. After a second of silence, Nelson thought better of his hand positions… and slowly slid one hand over his eyes. The other hand stayed firmly over his mouth.
"Nelson."
Grace spoke softly as she pried Nelson's hands from his face, one at a time.
"I can't marry you yet…"
"I'm so sorry, I don't know know what I was – wait, did you say 'yet'?!"
Grace grinned at Nelson.
"Yes silly, not yet. I can't accept your proposal until we have been dating for two years. It says so in the Perfs handbook."
"But" Grace continued, in a conspiring whisper, "I hope those two years go really fast."
Nelson looked at Grace for thirty seconds, his face full of shock. Grace began to worry that he might faint. He finally snapped out of it, and pinched himself – this seemed very different from the thousands of other dreams he's had about Grace, but he wanted to make sure. Then Nelson smiled the happiest smile he's ever had in his life.
"So… wanna go on a picnic tomorrow?" "Like… as a date?" Nelson added the last part hesitantly, still unable to believe this was really happening.
Grace smiled sweetly, and shrugged her shoulders a little.
"Yea, I'd like that."
"Well okay then. I'll see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow... Sparkle Princess Pony."
Nelson whistled happily to himself as he walked home. He'd never put together a picnic basket before, but he wasn't worried. He'd just beg the rest of Gravity 5 into giving him a hand. Far more urgent was one of the most important tasks of his life. Nelson needed to go make a 730-day countdown calendar immediately.
So there you go, my first try at creative writing. Hope you liked it anyway.
