Miles Edgeworth was walking down an alleyway, wondering how he was going to approach his next trial. Of all the defence attorneys that he had to face, he had to be up against Phoenix Wright. He had already helped him in a trial to get a not guilty verdict, plus (after some persuasion), Wright defended him in a murder trial. In addition to this, he got him declared innocent! He had said to Wright many times before that facing him resulted in him developing feelings that he recognised from years ago. Whether this was purely due to their friendship, he wasn't sure.
His mind wandered off from the case as he started to focus on where he needed to be going that day. He needed to go back to his office to check on some papers, and then he had to get back to his flat. If he was going to have any chance again Wright he needed his rest.
Suddenly, as he continued to walk, he heard a whimpering and a slight shuffling in the distance. Edgeworth frowned slightly and continued to walk until a small figure came into view. Before he knew it, he had some idea of who it was. She spent enough time with Phoenix Wright anyway. She had brown hair and looked about seven years old. If he wasn't mistaken, Pearl Fey was stood in front of him, with no sign of Wright or her cousin, Maya. Edgeworth stepped closer into view, trying not to scare her too much.
"Hello," said Edgeworth, trying to catch her eye. He wasn't used to interacting with young children one-to-one. He remembered Cody, the Steel Samurai fanatic that was a witness last year. When the Judge told him to be gentler with Cody, he found it difficult. "I'm Mr Edgeworth. You've probably seen me in court against your friend Mr Wright. You must be Miss Fey, aren't you?"
Briefly, Pearl widened her eyes slightly and she backed away a little. Suddenly, a look of recognition appeared on her face as she seemed to realise who he was. She took a deep breath.
"I... I'm Pearl," she said quietly.
"Are you Maya Fey's cousin?" Edgeworth asked, already knowing the answer. Pearl nodded and shifted from side to side.
"Where's your cousin?" Questioned Edgeworth. "This isn't really the weather for Hide and Seek."
"I lost her," she sighed, her eyes filling with tears. "One second I was walking with her, then I turned my head away for a second and suddenly she was gone! I can't find Mr Nick either!"
"Have you checked the offices?" Edgeworth suggested.
"I know they're probably there, but I don't know how to get there without help from Mystic Maya or Mr Nick!" She let out a sob at what happened.
Pearl leant slightly against a wall, placing her head in her hands.
"I'm a bad girl," she muttered. "If Mother were ever to find out about how silly I am, I'd get a spanking."
Edgeworth thought back to Pearl's mother, who Wright had recently put in jail.
"Do you want me to help you find the offices?" Asked Edgeworth. Pearl nodded, allowing a smile.
"Oh yes please, Mr Eh-ji-worth," smiled Pearl, allowing a sigh of relief. "You know, you are very nice. You would make a good defence attorney."
