Darker. Darker... Darker... It felt as though my body was swimming, The water ice cold as it swirled around my body like a whirlpool. No light whatsoever, I was just a floating essence in the infinity of the void. Left alone with only silence. And it was making me crazy. I hated the silence, it reminded me of how lonely I truly was.
I felt sick, I wanted to throw up, I wanted to gut myself from the inside out, I wanted to shrivel up and die. I felt like I had the worst food poisoning ever. It felt like I was puking up blood, or that my blood was slowly turning into dark, black, ink. My thoughts were like a raging ocean, every time I got up to the surface to breath another wave crashed down on me. I didn't know what to do, words swam through my head, all of them demeaning of myself. Hatred, guilt, regret, Judgment. I don't know where the voices were coming from, but I felt like I was going to die and I felt fine with it. I don't know why, and it scares me. Why do these things happen to me? Why did my mom leave me with Gabe? Why did I run away even though I knew, I was done for? Why am I still here, why am I not dead yet, why was I born? Wasn't I just a mistake!? Why haven't the God's killed me yet! For God's to laugh at? I want to scream. I want out of here- LET ME OUT OF HERE.
But no one was there to help me. I'm all alone and I know it. I'm forever stuck in this abyss of terror and sadness, it felt as though my entire life was burning through my body like a wildfire. I felt like I was a toy doll in a display case, not up for sale, but just there for people to look at. Not moving. Not doing anything. Only silently crying to myself. Being stuck inside the delicate China walls around me. I was losing hope, not that I had any in the first place. But... There... There's a light. It's not big, but I feel like I'm gravitating towards it. It's getting bigger, warmer. Soon, I feel like I'm being engulfed in it, being flourished in it...
"PERCY!" I heard a familiar female voice say to me. Engulfing me in her warm arms. Her honey blonde curls bouncing with her movement. My throat was dry, my eyelids felt like led. "An-Annabeth?" My voice croaked, it sounded tired, almost inaudible. "Percy... We-we were so-" she couldn't speak, her voice cracking up. But she wasn't the only one crying, I look over to the big sniffles I heard to my right, I see Grover whipping his tears away, silently sobbing to himself. I smile warmly at him, and hold out my arm, signaling for a hug. To which Grover basically attacked me and Annabeth.
Grover still had his curly red hair, but he had more freckles, and he had the tiniest hint of horns that were basically hidden in his hair. He looked taller and had a wispy goatee. Now that I look at it, Annabeth looked bigger, just the tiniest bit more curvy, almost not noticeable. And her hair wasn't as curly as it was, and her skin looked definitely more tan. But her eyes, the same stunning grey they always were. "Hey... I'm home" I said quietly, my own tears streaming my face. My lips tugged into a tight smile, sobs barely audible. We stayed like that for a while, that is until Luke came running up to the hill.
Luke, one of my oldest friends, he looks taller, beefier, and has a scar from the top of his eyebrow to the middle of his cheek. His hair was darker, and his eyes were the same as they were before. A light, kind, blue. "Guys, wha-" he cut his sentence short, his eyes going wide. Mouth agape with shock. But soon tears started to well in his eyes, he shut his mouth, and his lips formed a big, painful smile. "Hey Luke." I said, smiling at him tightly. He looked at a loss for words, but his eyes held joy, happiness, and relief. "Luke? Annabeth? Grover? What's going on here-" a man- no, centaur trotted towards us, his eyes going wide, an eyebrow rising, as if he was surprised and confused at the same time. Luke turned his attention from me to the centaur. Wiping some tears from the corner of his eyes. "Chiron, this... This is Percy. One of the half-bloods who had saved me, Grover, and Annabeth." He said, his voice wavering a little. Now, who I inquired was Chiron, looked purely surprised.
Now I that I have a good look at the centaur, he had a scruffy beard and thinning brown hair. His eyes held such wisdom and mystery in them that it was intriguing. As if he had been alive longer than anyone would imagine. Then again, I don't know what a centaurs life span is. "This is Perseus?" The centaur said, causing a nod from all four of us. I tried to scoot up, but my body was so exhausted that I could barely move. Luke seemed to notice and came over. Annabeth and Grover scooted out of the way, and with a bit of help and hassle, I had gotten on his back. He shifted me a couple of times so I was comfortable. Now I could get a good look at the marvelous tree in front of me.
It was huge. It looked like two trees that had merged together. It looked a little like a pine tree from the dark patches of bark and the fact that some of the leaves were pine needles. The other part of the tree was a light brown, that of an oak color. And the bark had a marbled effect when it mixed with the pine tree. The leaves had mixed in with the pine needles so it gave a mystical look, and the entire thing could probably be seen from miles and miles away, it was so heavy that the tree bent, and weirdly enough, the leaves made a more canopy look than that of an oak or a pine tree. It was a truly mystical sight. He felt that it looked like a tree from a sci-fi book, and he had a weird image of the underside of the tree glowing at night, even though he could tell it didn't do such thing.
"Something so beautiful... Yet a horrid price to pay for it." I heard Luke say to me quietly. I nodded slightly, my body still extremely sore. We walked into camp. It was marvelous. There was a coliseum, dining pavilion, it's own forest, a lake, strawberry fields, and cabins, I couldn't see the very well from where I was, but I heard the sizzle of something hot, I turn my head slightly and see a rock climbing wall, but with lava. This was a camp, wasn't it???? Then again they're training demigods here, not regular children. We walked in comfortable silence to the big house. It was painted a light blue, some of the paint was sadly chipping off though. At the porch of the house, was a man, he wasn't the tallest, he was definitely plump with a very red face, he wore some shorts and a Hawaiian cheetah print shirt. But he seemed more interested in his cards than anything else.
I yawned a little, feeling a bit more tired than before. My mind was wandering, random thoughts drifted through my head. How long had it been? How much have they changed? But my biggest one was. When am I getting my Hogwarts letter? I knew how Hogwarts worked. They picked out the strongest wizards they could find. I know for a fact that I'm not the strongest. But I'd like to hope that I'm strong enough for Hogwarts. But I snapped out of my thoughts as I was placed on a bed, it wasn't the nicest thing, but it was comfortable. "Percy you should get some more sleep. It will help you with your soreness, and your tiredness." Annabeth said, though her eyes were now puffy and red, the same for her nose and cheeks. Grover still had some tears in his eyes, and a bit of snow coming from his red nose but nodded at Annabeth's comment. I sighed. I knew I couldn't get up anyways. So I just stayed there, trying to sleep whilGroverer and Luke left, Annabeth had stayed to help me by feeding me a tiny bit of ambrosia and nectar. Eventually, I fell asleep. Blissfully having no dreams. But it wasn't the cold darkness like before, it was warm, dreamlike, but still dark. I was just happy that it wasn't a nightmare.
I would wake up some times to see Annabeth gone and instead, a tall surfer like male stood next to the door, but eyes covered his skin. To the point, I thought that he looked like if he bent his arm one of his eyes would either start crying from pain, the eye would have a small cut, or it would feel like it was getting stretched out. But I soon fell into blissful sleep once again.
I woke up again, but this time my body felt energized, it felt okay. I felt okay. And that made me happy. I could finally move again, no more stiffness, no more soreness, no more tiredness, just. Happyness. No one was in the room at the time, so I swung my legs to the side, off the bed. And tried to stand, though with a bit of difficulty, then again, not walking for an extrem amount of time would do that to the body. I got the hang of it, but I still had a little bit of uncomfortableness in my step, and I limped just a tiny bit. But I was okay. I looked down and found myself in some comfortable sweatpants, and a comfortable shirt (even if the color was an eye bleeding orange) that had 3 big letters on them. CHB, and under it was a Pegasus, symboling this really was a Greek camp. I walked to the porch, where Annabeth, grover, Luke, Chiron, and the plump man sat. Annabeth was the first to notice me, and she smirked playfully "you drool in your sleep" she said, to which I stuck my tounge out at her "yeah yeah yeah, whatever." I said, stretching. Both Chiron and the plump man gave me a confused look. Even if they were a tiny bit surprised at my accent, they didn't show it. "Glad your up man." Luke said, a soft look on his face.
I smiled, "thanks mate," I said, giving him a crooked grin. The plump camp director (or I think he is) gave me a weird look at that. But I decided to brush it off. "Chiron, right?" I asked the man in the wheelchair, how he got in there I don't know, but oh well. He looked at me and gave me a small smile "yes, and Mr.D is also one of your camp directors." I looked at the plump man, only for him to scoffed at me and start decking out cards to them (besides Percy). But as he was doing that Chiron seemed to get an idea. "Annabeth, would you like to show Percy around camp?" Chiron asked her, to which she nodded, standing up quickly.
Luke and grover waved us off as she began to walk around with me. We approached a Greek like pavilion, with many tables, all with a different colour. "This is the dining pavilion. Each cabin has their own table. And for some reason, you can't sit at another person's table, because it's against the rules to do so." She said, putting her arms out as if to say 'look at this fabulous piece of art I didn't make but I'm going to pretend I did'. Like if you went into a museum the tour guides do that big hand motion thing. Yeah, that thing.
But right before we left I noticed a fire pit in the middle of the pavilion, and as she tried walking away I grabbed her sleeve, making her look at me questionably. "What's that for?" I asked pointing to the fire pit. She gave a small hmm before talking "that's the fire pit, we turn it on at dinner so we can burn a piece of food for the God's," she said, and I looked at her weird. "Wouldn't that not smell great though?" I asked. "Well, I thought that too at first, but it actually smells like your favorite food when you burn it, kinda cool huh?" She said, giving me a small grin, before setting off again.
We went around, touring my new home. And as she was telling me about the arena, a burly woman walked up to us, stringy hair that had a head band wrapped around her forehead, 6ft tall, and had eyes that seemed to have such a burning hatred for me. "Oi pipsqueak!" She yelled at me, 3 other woman who were not as pretty as the "leader", and she wasn't very pretty in the first place. "Clarisse." Annabeth said in a grimace, her fists balling up in anger. "Shut up princess! Who's this pipsqueak you got here?" She said, a nasty grin on her face. "None of your business, plus, don't call me pipsqueak!" I said, a small sneer on my face. The woman - Clarisse just gave a bigger grin at that. "Hey, pipsqueak! How bout you go back to England where it's all tea and biscuits eh? Oh wait, you don't have anymore family to go to do you!" She said in a mocking tone.
I was seething with rage, my fists balled so tight that I felt a stinging sensation go throughout my palms. My jaw was clenched so tight I thought it would shatter, I was just about ready to murder her. I felt a familiar tug at my gut, and without warning the pluming system of the bathrooms that were near us bursted, water burst through the windows, shattering them, and busting down the door. I heard a loud gasp come from clarisse's mouth, to which she gave a sneer, she took a step forward. But thank the God's Chiron stepped between us. "What's going on!" He said, his centaur form towering over us. Clarisse stayed silent, turning her head to the ground and grimacing, folding her arms infront of her in a defensive like position.
The centaur sighed, before turning and speaking "I better not hear anything about you fighting our newest camper Clarisse." He said, before trotting away, to which she scoffed. "This is not the end pipsqueak!!" She said before her and her goons walked away, still clearly angry at me. I released a breath I didn't knew I was holding in when she was out of eye sight. I heard Annabeth sigh in irritation, putting two fingers on her temples, rubbing the soft spot. "Don't mind her, she likes the scare the campers." She said, crossing her arms. "Who's her parent?" I asked to which she replied dramatically "ares! God of war!" She said doing weird hand movements along with the dramatic statement, before groaning and rubbing on the bridge of her nose "she can be a serious pain in the butt. Try not to pay her any attention." She said, before walking away, making me follow her, continuing our tour.
We toured around, till supper, to which a loud horn resounded through the camp, signalling for the kids to get to the dining pavilion. We walked up, Annabeth walking to the Athena table, which was painted a grey, like Annabeth and her siblings eyes. I sighed, smiling a little. "Percy" I heard Chiron say behind me, I turn around, smiling at the old centaur. "Yes?" I ask, confusion written on my face.
"You do know your parent, correct?" He asked, the twinkle in his eye told me he knew who my father was, to which I nodded. He sighed, and looked a little guiltily at the floor. "I won't push on the subject, but your table is here." He said, leading me to a table which the paitjob was peeling off, not because of too much use, but because of too little use. The paint job was a sea green, like my eyes. I sat down, I looked back to see Chiron having a conversation with Mr. D. And yes, I knew he was Dionysus, it was like a third instinct. But then again- words have power in this world.
"Something on your mind Percy?" A soft, warm, and comforting voice spoke infront of me. I look up to find Hestia infront of me. She had a small smile on her face as she looked at me, she may have looked like a child, but her eyes were full of such wisdom it didn't exactly work with the form she took on. "It's nothing really. Just, I feel weird, and I know that it's because, y'know, my body is years older, and yet, I was stuck inside of a tree. What kinda nonsense is that??" I chuckled a little at my own joke as she just smiled warmly at me. "Percy, I have something for you. It's from Hecate." She said, handing me a parchment envelope. There was an emerald green writing on it-
Percy Jackson.
Camp half blood, Long island sound.
I looked at the wax seal. A picture of 4 animals. A Snake, an Eagle, a Badger, and finally a Lion. I already knew what it was by just the seel. Hogwarts. So it seemed I did get excepted. I smiled a little, opening the envelope. To which, surprisingly, it was written in Greek. I went through the list, and as I saw a signature, I understood.
From.
Daughter of Hecate, Minerva McGonagall.
I chuckled a little at the irony of her name. And when I looked up to say thank you to Hestia, she was gone. I smiled. This was going to be a great year...
