A/N: This is my first fanfic. Sorry about the shortish chapter. This is baisically the prologue. Longer chapters later I promise. Please review so I can get some outside opinons on this. Ok well hafta go. I hafta go dream of what happens next.

I looked at her. She was the epitome of perfection, beauty, light. The opposite of my dark soul. Her eyes were still closed. Diamond tears were still clinging to her almond eyes. She was trembling with what was either fear or cold. Neither of which had any place in my world.

I turned nearly vomiting with the loathing in my soul for the pampered prince behind me. I loved her, to much to let her stay in this cold hell with me. "Take her", I turned to Christene, "forget me forget all of this". Trying to remain composed I turned back to that pampered brat Raoul "Go now don't let them find you, take the boat leave me here go now don't wait." He stared in shock, probably never considered that a monster could have a soul. Probably never considered I loved her enough to let go.

"Just take her and go, before it's too late, go" Neither moved. Christene was crying again. I wasn't sure why, wasn't I giving her who she wanted. I knew the kiss she gave me was given to save him. I knew she could never want me. "GO NOW GO NOW AND LEAVE ME!" It was a last resort. I hoped to scare the one woman I never wished to harm into leaving me.

I ran back to my house before I changed my mind out of pure selfish want. I wound up the music box. "masquerade, paper faces on parade, masquerade hide your face so the world can never find you." I felt a hand on my shoulder and warm lips on my deformed cheek. "The tears collected in my eyes "Christene, I love you". She didn't respond. Her eyes shone with what I don't know. She placed the engagement ring I gave her in my hand. She fled. She was probably so terrified of me she couldn't stand to stay near me even for a few seconds. But if that was true, why the kiss? I held my fingers to my cheek even as I heard the ghost of Christene and Raoul's vows of love. The mob was coming, I could see their torches glowing in the passages beyond. I escaped into my labyrinth determined to wait them out.
