Deep Blue

The endless stretch of glistening blue sea is a wondrous sight. On a clear day the water is impossibly beautiful. During a storm the waters roar and crash but are still impossibly beautiful.

On clear days, such as this one, Ariel looks out over the sea. She thinks of her father and her sisters. She thinks of all the times she shared with her friends. She remembers her mother and all the mermaids and mermen that she was friends with.

It isn't that she regrets becoming human. She was always meant to be human, she knows. Sometimes she misses spending the entire day with her sisters. She misses not being able to run to her father whenever she wants to.

Melody ventures to the sea often. The courtyards are usually filled with the echo of her laughter. She loves the water. She could, at heart, be a mermaid like Ariel was at heart a human. The thought of losing her daughter to the sea plagues Ariel's dreams.

She misses the feeling of water surrounding her. She misses watching the rivulets pour from between her fingers. The life she lived was not meant for her but she did enjoy it. Her departure still lingers in her mind and she daren't swim in the sea anymore.

She sighs and turns away. Her hands draw the curtains closed. Her shoes clack against the marble floor. Her heart is heavy with longing that she cannot give in to.

Her worries are as deep and as blue as the ocean she once called home.

Author's Note: Yes, this is sappy. I'm really not good with sappy, surprising as that may be. I'm more of an angst writer and this really is just sap. That being said, I do like this a bit. I still dream that one day my legs will turn to a tail and I'll swim away into the dark waters of the night. Oh, well, I'd trade that for wings but I still want a tail. Thank you all for reading. I hope that you enjoyed this piece. I apologise if you didn't like this.
