"So, you decided to keep watching? That's awesome, well probably for you. I'm going to assume you watched my first video, if not how the hell did you end up on this one? But for you weirdos who didn't watch it, my name is Leo Valdez. I am 19 years old, one of the three-hundred-thousand players currently trapped in the VRMMORPG Demigods Online, and if you are hearing this I'm likely dead. Wow, that was melodramatic. I'm not dead at the time of recording obviously, but I feel like I should mention it. I know you have tons of questions, like 'how did you get trapped? How did you get out? What was it like in there?', but I'll let the survivors answer those. One question that I can answer is we have currently been trapped in this game for two years, six months, and three days. Man, that's a long time. In these videos I won't tell you about the first reactions when we found out we were trapped, I won't tell you about the twelve thousand players who died in the first month, I won't even tell you about the first five months in the game. Like I said before, the people who made it out can tell that. I'm going to tell you about the day that I meet the person that I'm willing to do die for...the day I met her."
"Valdez, our inventory is full. We need to head back," my friend Jason says as I swung the pickaxe into the mineral deposit. I turned to look at him and throw my pickaxe on my shoulder. As soon as I stop, the green bar on my HUD starts to fill, showing my stamina regenerating.
"Jason, we got here an hour ago. My inventory isn't even half full, how is both of yours full?"
"We may or may not have forgotten to clear out unnecessary items before coming here," my other friend Piper mentions. I sighed and facepalmed.
"How many slots were empty when we got here?" I says with my hand still on my forehead.
"Like seven," Jason answers sheepishly.
"Let me guess, you are encumbered." Piper nods slowly.
"Fine, you two head back. I still need metals so I'll say a bit longer. If I fill up right under the limit, I'll be back right before you two get home," I tell them shaking my head.
"Thanks Valdez," Piper said as she slipped her arm into Jason's. The two of them walked along the lakefront into the treeline. I watched them for a bit before turning back to the mineral deposit that I was working on. It was almost completely depleted. Taking that as a sign to take a break, I held my left index finger up at about chest height and swiped down. The in game menu popped up displaying my current inventory. I swiped to the left onto my stats page. I glanced my current mining level and tried to calculate how many more materials I would need to mine to level it up. As I was trying to figure that out, the sounds of combat took me out of the moment. I turned quickly and saw in the treeline a girl fighting four ogres. In general, the danger of monsters go up exponentially. One monster of the same level is easily dispatched, two might give you trouble, three means you would need a friend to help out. But four monsters against one means almost certain death to the player. I threw my pickaxe in the air and it turned into pixels as I unequiped it. I put my hand on my back and my warhammer materialized. I started sprinting towards the fight. I wasn't too far away, but the medium armor I was wearing means that stamina drains as I sprint. As I get closer, health bars began to pop up. She was a level 37, one level below me, and her health was just below 50%. Two of the ogres still had 70% of their health, one had 50%, and the last was full health. Once I was in 'combat' range, my health, mana, and stamina bar popped up in the corner with all of my combat skills in a bar along the bottom. The ogres got a red outline and the girl got a green chevron above her head. The ogre with the lowest health got a yellow outline and an expansion of its health bar appeared at the top of my vision. I activated my [Fire Strike] skill and an arc of fire flew off of my hammer as I swung it. The flame glided across the ground and hit the ogre in the center of its chest. A portion of the ogre's health bar dissipated as I
pulled the aggro of the ogre from the girl onto me. I glanced at my bars and saw that a third of my stamina gone and a sixteenth of my mana was gone. I swung my hammer upward at the ogre and it was knocked back as another portion of its health dropped. The ogre yelled before winding up its attack. A very telegraphed downward swing was very easy to dodge and I activated [Roll Strike] which does double damage to a target who's attack missed due to this skill. I held up my left hand and used a [Firebolt] to finish the ogre. As the ogre died, it splintered into green and red pixels. The health bar at the top of my HUD switched to one of the ogres with 70% health. I noticed that the girl killed the lowest health ogre and was ready to give the final blow to the other. Figuring that the battle was done, I activated two combat skills consecutively, [Hammer Smash] and [Flame Charge]. Automatically, my arms went above my head and smashed straight down on the ogre knocking it down with enough force to bounce it in the air. Immediately after, my body became engulfed in gold flames and I grappled it and ran it into a tree. The moment the ogre touched the tree it splintered into the same green and red pixels. Happy with myself, I deactivated combat mode before turning to the girl. I turn and came face to face with possible the most beautiful girl I've ever seen...well she would have been if she wasn't so angry. I could almost see the steam coming off of her head.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" she shouted as the exp menu popped up. I swiped my hand closing the menu
"Um, you're welcome? I just saved you," I said squaring up on her. I glanced up and looked at some of her public stats. Her username was {Moonlace} and the battle leveled her up to level 38, putting her on the same level as me. There was not Guild next to her name, indicating that she was probably a solo player. I took note that she was a wind demigod.
"Saved me?! All you did was steal my kills!" I noticed that she also looked above my head and was likely trying to size me up.
"There were four ogres! That spells player death!" I said taking a step towards her. Her almond eyes narrowed at me.
"I'm not some damsel in distress that you hero-types need to save," she said taking a step to me. The two of us lock eyes and I wasn't sure if we were going to fight or makeout. I honestly started to lose myself in her eyes. I was the first to back down, opening my menu and swiping to the trade menu. I loaded all the drops from the ogres and threw in a few gemstones that I didn't need. I tapped on her name and the trade menu pops up in front of her.
"Happy sunshine?" She glares at me as she accepts the trade. She tosses two ring blades into the air and they dissipate. She walks past me back into the forest, her white and gold armor fading as she disappears into the forest. I shook my head and opened up my inventory. I tap on a blue potion and it materializes in my right hand. I flicked to top of the potion off with my thumb and I chugged it. The potion reminded my of the lemonade that my mom used to make me when I was young, but it wasn't the same...it was synthetic. The blue bar showing my mana level started to fill again. I sorted my inventory and saw that I wasn't even close to full, now that I lost gemstones. I decided that I'd come back tomorrow since I used my last mana potion. I opened up my map and swiped between the floor until I got to floor twelve. I tapped the main town there. A pulse fires out of me, detecting if any enemies are around before I became encased in blue light. When the light went away, I was at the entrance to the main town of floor twelve, Sylvania. Once I passed the border, [Now Entering Safe zone] popped up. I swiped it away annoyed. Sylvania was one of the more populated towns in the game, mostly because at the time it was the biggest safe zone. As I entered, I saw the People's Guild preparing their brigade to ferry low level players to this floor. As I looked around, people's names, levels, and gods were displayed everywhere. It was as if the world was full of pop up ads. I make my way through the dirt roads passing people who were enjoying their new virtual life.
"Hey Valdez, you got any drachmas you could spare?" one of the younger players who were trapped.
"I gave you ten yesterday, what did you do with them?" I asked him.
"Nothin, I just need a stronger weapon. If I had a better sword maybe {Kelphead} will let me join him on a mission," he said enthusiastically.
"I keep telling you, Percy isn't letting you go to keep you safe Harley," I said trying to mess with his hair. It was out of place for a moment, before it fixed itself.
"The name is {xXSlayerXx}" he shouted as I walked past him. I looked over and saw that the flower shop across from my shop,"Beauregards", was closing up for the day. {Beauregard} looked up and waved at me as I walked up.
"Charles says thanks for helping him secure the People's Guild contract."
"No problem, but tell him that he has to remember me if any special contracts that he can't fulfil comes up."
"Will do," she says with a laugh. Leo walks up to his shop and taps on the door. The options to [Open Shop] and [Enter While Remaining Closed] show up. He presses the latter of the two and he enters his shop. The interior of his shop was a very basic design. It had a completely wooden interior with display shelves the two walls to the left and right as the room is entered. Another display case is next to the door. Near the back wall is a counter with a display case in front of it. To the left of the counter is a door that leads to "McLean's", Piper's Pub . Behind the counter is another door that leads to the area where I did smithing, and next to the door was a staircase that leads to my shared apartment with Piper and Jason. I headed behind the counter and started to unequip my armor as I climbed the stairs. By the time I got to the top, my red and orange medium armor was gone and I was wearing a shirt and pants. I look over to Piper and Jason's room and sees that the door is closed. The door showed a lock, meaning that they were already asleep. I walked into the kitchen and tapped on the coffee maker. One coffee cup entered my inventory and I headed into my room. I went to my bed and set that I wanted to sleep for four hours. As soon as I hit the sleep button, I drank the coffee cup. While four hours did pass for everybody else in the game, for me it only lasted seconds. As soon as I woke up, the message [You Feel Well Rested] popped up. I smiled at this message. There was an exploit in the game, where if you drink a cup of coffee as soon as you go to sleep for four hours, the game registers it as if you rested eight, giving you the full benefits. When I woke up, I saw that Piper and Jason were both awake already. I headed down the other stairs into "McLean's" Piper at the counter on the pub's menu, while Jason was wiping down the counters.
"What are you doing up so early?" Piper asked closing the menu.
"I only need four hours," I said shrugging.
"You used the exploit again didn't you?" Jason asked.
"I need as much uptime as possible. Plus it's not like I could get married to anybody so I get the [Lover's Embrace] bonus like you guys." The two of the started to get red. While the two of them were dating in real life, they decided to get in-game married because of the benefits. Getting married let's you sleep four hours and get a full night's rest if your partner is in the same bed, it allows two people to occupy one bed, expands the inventory of both partners while also linking them, and allows two people to co-own a building, providing both of them drachmas as income.
"Can you not say it that way? It has a...weird connotation," Jason said looking at the ceiling. The air in the pub got a bit awkward after Jason brought that up. Piper cleared her throat.
"Um, {Beckendorf} came by earlier," Piper said changing the subject. I perked up at this.
"He came by, as in he had a contract for me?" I asked, getting excited.
"Apparently someone wanted a ring blade with multiple enchants," Jason said grabbing a broom.
"Ring blade...no wonder he sent it to me. I guess that means I'm going to be busy for the next few weeks."
"Why is that?" Piper asked as she opened the pub.
"Ring blades are a pain to make, and an even bigger pain to get as a drop. In order to make just an unenchanted ring blade, I'd need to make three daggers and fuse them in the forge. Making a single enchanted ring blade would mean I'd need to make all three daggers with that enchantment. The more enchantments, the more daggers needed."
"Well supposedly they only want a rare quality," Jason said as someone entered the pub.
"They probably think that they can't afford a legendary," I said as I waved at the patrons entering.
"Still don't know how you can afford to stay open when your prices are so low," Piper said as she pulled up a menu. She tapped twice on it and she instantly changed out of her casual clothes into her work outfit, which consisted of a frilly short sleeve dress shirt, a leather vest, a short skirt, and knee high boots.
"There are people who need good weapons, why not help the people? So when is this girl getting here?"
"How do you know it's a girl?" Piper asked.
"It's always a girl carrying ring blades. So?" Piper shook her head.
"She's waiting in the shop, I'll come with you. Jason, take over the shop," she said coming around.
"Wait she is in the shop? Alone?" I asked as I followed her to the room.
"It's not like it's a real shop. She can't interact with anything when you aren't here." I raised my hand, but realized that she had a point. I opened the door saw the back of a brunette wearing light armor.
"{Moonlace} meet {Valdez}," Piper introduced. The girl turned around, and I was surprised to see that it was the girl from the lake.
"You again?!" She and I said at the same time.
"Ah, you know each other," Piper said with a smile that said she wanted to know the story.
"Yeah, he is a kill stealer," {Moonlace} said crossing her arms.
"Well, Sunshine over here has a death wish"
"I see. Well, I wouldn't say that he is a kill stealer, but he is the best blacksmith when it comes to high level magic weapons," Piper said as she leaned on one of the walls.
"Look, I just want an estimate. I'm running short on drachma and I can't afford to pay an arm and a leg for a weapon," she said.
"Well, that shouldn't be a problem, I run pretty cheap." She laughed.
"I definitely haven't heard that one before." I opened the shop menu and officially opened the shop. The door behind her opened and the light from the street outside flooded in. I waved my hand, and the custom weapon menu opened in front of her. Her eyebrow furrowed. "This can't be right."
"What? Does it cost too many arms and legs?" I said with a smug look on my face. She glared at me.
"What's the trick?" she asked crossing her arms.
"No trick, I just sell great quality weapons for cheap," I said as I shrugged.
"A legendary ring blade here is half the price of a rare blade anywhere else I go," she said incredulously.
"People in this world need weapons and this world's currency means nothing in the real world. There is no reason to overcharge people." She seemed impressed. She tapped on the menu for a few minutes. "The only thing is that I'm the only one allowed to work on these weapons and for custom weapons, the client has to help me make it." She stopped tapping and looked at me.
"What?"
"Yeah, it's the only way I can keep it cheap."
"What do you mean help make it?" she asked as she crossed her arms.
"Basically I need a bodyguard when I get materials, and someone to hand me things when I work in the shop."
"You can not be serious?"
"Am I?" I asked, daring her to accept. She locked eyes with me and the two of us stared at each other. She looked away and tapped a button on the weapon and the menu closed. A menu then popped up in front of me, showing her order. "Pleasure doing business with you," I said with a slight smirk.
"Well as fun as that business transaction was to watch, I probably should get out of here before things get too awkward," Piper said from her spot on the wall. I slightly jumped because I forgot that she was in there.
"Are we going to start on this right away because I'm getting sleepy?" she asked.
"We can start whenever."
"Great, is there an inn nearby?" she asked.
"You don't own a house?" Piper asked from the door.
"Um…"
"We have a spare room upstairs, you can sleep there until you guys are done making your weapon," Piper offered.
"Oh, no I wouldn't want to impose."
"I insist," Piper presses. "I'll show you the way." {Moonlace} followed Piper up the stairs to the apartment, and I was confused at what the hell just happened. A few minutes later Piper came down the stairs with a smirk.
"What are you planning?"
"I don't know what you mean," she said sarcastically.
"Piper."
"It's been awhile since you've liked someone, I figured I'd help out."
"I do not like here. This is literally my second conversation with her," I said gesturing to the stairs.
"I can see the spark."
"A spark of conflict."
"Every girl you've dated, you started by arguing with them. It's like a red flag that you will fall for her."
"Ha, well it looks like you are wrong about this one."
"I'll admit, I had no idea how wrong I was about to be. So then I…Crap. Jason and Piper are back from their date night. That's all for this video."
