Enjolras, the only survivor of the barricades, recovers in Valjean´s house.
After Enjolras´condition improved, Cosette helped him to the garden.
They sat in the midst of the roses and greenery and spoke. They discussed about the books and politics and charity, which Enjolras saw extremely positive, but still not enough to change the corrupt system. Cosette, whose chestnut hair was polished by the summer sun, listened when Enjolras told about his dead friends; he seemed to be born mature and severe. There was a physical distance which neither of them passed.
"I must move," Enjolras said in one day. "I must meet other Republicans and I can´t endanger you and your father."
Cosette felt pang of pain. "You are leaving us?"
"No. I am just moving to another apartment. I cannot be found here."
Cosette smiled.
