Ode to Arthur Kirkland
Gentlemanly punk and knightly pirate,
An aura of politeness, class, and dignity,
And smart, casual clothes on your slender frame to match…
But it's the messy hair that gives it away,
Golden, short strands that can never be tamed,
Providing a clue of the fun side most complain you lack;
They clearly have not seen your punk-like attire,
Reserved for those few occasions when you lay your literature and embroidery on the shelf,
Expose the six string on your skin, and let yourself surrender to rock music and romanticism.
English rose, soft under the thorns that play your offense and defense,
So much of you has been hidden, rendered as weaknesses to the cruel world around you:
All concealed behind walls of sharp-tongued wit, cynical stubbornness, and "splendid" isolation.
Won't you leave the tiniest crack so your advice won't be mistaken for scolding;
Don't withdraw to your fantasy world of magic and fairies,
Your unicorns and rabbits with wings and fur of mint green;
Stay resilient, as you always have,
For you fear little, are creative, and don't succumb to the pressure that easily;
If they couldn't already tell from experience,
A look at lime jewels framed by chaotic locks:
Fierce flames and determined sparks leaping within tell all.
Thank you for reading this story (poem actually). This was written as an assignment in English class. We had to write an ode to something we could easily get lost into, so I chose my favorite character from my favorite anime. After receiving great comments from my teacher, I decided to publish it here. This is a given, but I do not own Hetalia or its characters. Review and/or favorite if you wish, and thank you again.
