Dave couldn't believe the other guys were going along with Puckerman's stupid plan. There was no way Coach Beiste would let them play after performing in that ridiculous half time show. The Titans were going to make fools of themselves in front of the whole school and probably some college scouts for nothing. Some of the other guys could risk being called geeks or losers but there was no way Dave could be called gay again. He already felt like his secret could be revealed any minute, there was no need to draw anymore negative attention his way. After all it had taken every ounce of his strength not to punch that puck head in the face for saying glee had turned him gay. He couldn't believe Az had tried to make him join in the half time show, he knew how Dave felt about those losers. It didn't matter if Mr. Shue had called him talented. No one else in that crowd would think that, he'd just be another Lima loser.
Dave finished emptying his locker into his messager bag and headed towards the field. A nagging feeling told him he should go watch his friend's perform. At least he could get some blackmail material, maybe take a few pictures of their awesome zombie makeup. Dave was surprised to see the crowd jump to their feet the moment that Santana girl belted out the lines from Heads Will Roll. He gripped the strap of his bag tighter realizing how lonely he felt on the sidelines watching his friends have the time of their lives. A lump filled his throat, maybe Puckerman had been right, maybe this would be something to tell his kids about in twenty years. It was too late now; he'd made his decision to sit it out even if his best friend looked like he was having a blast being a zombie.
Dave heard a familiar scream from above his head in the bleachers. It was the one person that could make him change his mind: Hummel. He was dancing along to the music in his seat with his dad and Finn's mom. He looked just as beautiful as Dave remembered. His heart caught in his throat as he realized if Hummel had been on that field right now there is no way Dave wouldn't have joined him, even if he had been forced into wearing a sequin ball gown. His eyes moved at Hummel's right and he noticed the pretty boy asshole that had tried to out him in the hallway. Was Kurt with that idiot? Dave wanted to run up those stairs and claim Kurt for his own. He was more of Kurt's type than that prep school loser.
Dave watched the Gleeks and Titans dance for a few moments more before deciding he could do more than silently dedicate his performance in She's Not There to Fancy. He could be the man Kurt had always wanted: the jock that could sing and dance. Mr. Shue had told him he could be the most talented guy in the school if he just put some energy into it. He was ready to start believing his teacher. He smiled at the dancers before reaching into his bag for his zombie football jersey and throwing it over his head. Fuck that prep school geek, Fancy was his.
Dave ran onto the field giving Hudson a high five to make sure Fancy noticed he was there. Dave joined the group his eyes focusing straight on Kurt in crowd. He swore he saw Kurt's eyes light up when they made eye contact and they danced the same move. He tried to tell Fancy, 'it's all for you,' with his eyes as he executed the dance perfectly trying to prove he wasn't a no talent Lima Loser. It was all worth it when he saw Kurt staring straight at him as he jump up and down clapping his hands at the end of the performance. The game wasn't finished yet but he knew the final score would be Dave Karofsky 1 prep school loser 0.
