The ugly word echoed through her mind, until she was dissolved in her own misery. She stared into the mirror dizzily, noticing her view was blurry. A moment later, she felt her own salty tears rolling down her cheeks.
She sighed, she shouldn't be crying over him, but she was. She had told him that she was no good, that she was cheating on him, but he hadn't listened. He had told her he was in love, not knowing that those four little words had ripped her heart to shreds.
She sighed, it was no good. She couldn't forget him. No both of them were heartbroken, him because his girlfriend had been cheating on him and her because he hadn't listened to her when she had told him. She had just slowly faded away from his life. Apparently, his girlfriend had been more important than his best friend who also happened to be in love with him. She remembered the day he had made that clear.
She had been going to a party with them, when she finally exploded, she couldn't take it anymore. She had grown tired of being ignored by her best friend just because he had gotten a girlfriend, who also happened to be her worst enemy. She had pulled him away from the crowd, telling him she needed to talk, he had looked confused, but he had nodded and detached himself from his girlfriend. She had taken him to a private room and closed the door.
"I don't think I can take this anymore," she had said, trying not to cry.
"What are you talking about? Are you OK?" he had asked, his chocolate brown eyes looking confused and concerned.
"Don't' pretend you don't know what I'm talking about" she had screamed, her tears streaming freely down her face. " You have been ignoring me ever since you started going out with her! I thought we were supposed to be best friends, and you certainly haven't acted like a best friend!"
To her surprise, he had remained calm, instead of apologizing and telling her everything was going to be fine, like she had expected. "You're right," he had said. "I haven't been such a good best friend, I don't think I can do this anymore."
" Do what?" she had said, even though she already knew the answer.
" I don't think we can be best friend anymore, not like this," he had said with a hint of defeat in his voice.
"What?" she had screamed.
"I didn't mean it in a bad way!" he had said hurriedly, reaching out to grab her hand. She had recoiled as though his touch had burned her. Then she had just stomped out of the room, sobbing uncontrollably, leaving him calling her name.
Two months later and she still missed him, but she was trying not to. She had succeeded a couple of times, but then memories of that time had come rushing back and she had burst into tears.
Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing Doooooooong Diiiiiiiiiiin Doooooooooooooooong
She was pulled out of her misery by the ringing of the doorbell. Quickly wiping away her tears, she went to the door and opened it. There he was, kneeling on the front porch with a rose in his hand.
"I'm sorry I never meant to hurt you, it's just that I was falling in love with you, but you were my best friend, and I wasn't supposed to and I was scared," he said in one breath. "Will you forgive me?"
Instead of answering, she flung herself at his arms, willing to forgive everything he had done. "It's okay, I forgive you." He hugged her, smiling.
Then he tilted her head up, capturing her lips in a sweet kiss full of love.
