It's impossible to take back ones words or actions. What's done can not be undone, so you should be sure to think things through before doing anything drastic. One tiny mistake could ruin your life, or the lives of others, forever.
Morris tried no to think about that when he fled Looking Glass Land. He didn't give himself the chance to regret until he was far enough away from the castle. He didn't want to have to face what he was doing, what he had done. He had just abandoned Hatter, the woman who he knew loved him, to die or worse.
He told himself that if she was in his situation she would do the same, but he knew it was a lie. He knew that Hatter wasn't the coward that he was and that she would never have left him to die. She may have not been your stereotypical hero, but she was someone who would fight to the death for what she believed in.
He knew that, if she wasn't killed before she realized that he had betrayed her, her heart would be broken. She had loved him and he had sold her out. Part of him wanted to turn back and to try to save her, but the rational part of him knew that would do no good.
We live in a cruel world and Hatter knew that. Deep down inside she would understand, but, he knew, she wouldn't forgive him. He didn't deserve her forgiveness.
He was a spineless rat, and he made himself sick. Hatter had deserved more, and he didn't deserve to be the one of them who lived. Now that it was all over, he almost wished he had died.
