This is my first Rose of Versailles fanfic that I have uploaded.

I love the manga and anime Rose of Versailles. So I thought it would be nice to upload something today, on Bastille Day. The day our dear Oscar was killed.

So This story tells the last moments of Oscar, enjoy.

Disclaimer: Rose of Versailles belongs to Riyoko Ikeda.

Oscar François de Jarjayes was going to die. She knew it and she was ready. But maybe now, she wanted to delay the inevitable for a bit longer.

Oscar's POV
I will die today. If not today, then tomorrow, next week, or next month. I probably won't live to see the Dauphin crowned king. If the bullets don't kill me today, or bleed to death tomorrow from the wounds I am sure to receive. Then this deadly disease in my lungs will eventually take my life, within six months.

I am not afraid to die, for I will be reunited with my beloved Andre. Oh Andre, please wait a bit longer. Let me live to see the Bastille fall.
End of Oscar's POV

"Fire!"
The voice of the brigadier shouted above the commotion. Canons boomed again, and again. Each hit the walls of the Bastille, damaging it further.

"Sir, we can't hold back anymore."
"Let's just surrender."

The desperate soldiers guarding Bastille knew they could not win over the people's will. Especially when the well-known Oscar François de Jarjayes and her soldiers were fighting with them.
"You fools! What are you saying, we can't do that!" Marquis de Launay was getting desperate. He knew that even if the people spared him, the Royal family would not.

"Aim at the commander! If we shoot her, the small fry will fall soon."

CRACK CRACK CRACK CRACK CRACK CRACK

Oscar's POV
Nearly, nearly...
I've been shot, again and again.
But please, Alain, everyone, don't stop.
Keep shooting.

"Go on, just a bit more, and Bastille will fall. GO ON!"

I tell you all with the last of my strength.

Go on, keep shooting, and don't worry about me. We're nearly there, Bastille will fall soon, soon...

Please God, let me live a bit longer.

Let me see what the people can do, the glorious power of our citizens.

A new beginning...

What are you doing Alain? You can't carry me far, not with your arm like that.

Oh Rosalie, dear Rosalie. Don't cry. Don't be sad. Tears do not suit you.

"Andre is waiting..." I tell you weakly, my strength is fading, and I don't have much time left.

"Captain!"
What is it Alain, why are you so surprised...

I look, and I rejoice at the sight. The white flag...

Bastille had surrendered.

It finally fell!

Oh, bold and great French citizens.

Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.
These supreme ideals are the eternal foundations for humanity.

"Vive La France!"

Today, I witnessed a great event in history that will be told to generations to come. With this in mind, I can rest peacefully.

Father, mother, nanny, sorry but I won't be back, ever again.

Oh my dear Queen Marie Antoinette, I'm afraid I can no longer protect you.

Count Fersen, my dear friend, please, protect her for me, I believe in you...

Alain, Rosalie, thank you for staying by my side to the end. I'm glad I met you…

I'm happy that I lived my life the way it was. Unusual it may be, but I lived the life I was given without a single regret.

Everyone... Adieu...

I'm coming Andre.

The End
