A/N hello everyone! so this is a little one shot that came to me, i am sorry if there is any mistakes and if there is please let me know!

disclaimer: Merlin does mot belong to me, otherwise if it did Merlin would have gone on forever...

As Arthur opened his eyes he wondered where his useless lazy servant was, he was meant to be meeting his father soon to go hunting and he wasn't even dressed yet! Merlin had recently been lazy according to Arthur, turning up late, forgetting his breakfast but Arthur had yet to notice the pain in Merlin eyes, or how Merlin hadn't smiled in days.

Little had Arthur known, but Merlin hadn't stopped working for two days, he spent all night polishing armour while in the day he carried out all his chores, even with magic it was a too big a task for Merlin. He was truly exhausted but no one had even noticed.

Eventually, Merlin turned up and set Arthur's breakfast down on the table.
"What is that?" Arthur asked pointing at the plate on the wooden table.
"Your breakfast." Merlin replied tiredly.
"That is not a breakfast Merlin, I am the future king and you expect me to live off a apple and bread." Arthur said angrily.
"Sorry sire." Merlin said clearly not meaning it.
"Oh you will be." Slowly Arthur got out of bed and picked up the apple off the plate. Realising what Arthur was going to do, Merlin sprinted for the chamber door but he was too slow. Arthur made the apple fly through the air, hitting his young servants head, causing him to fall to the floor hitting his head on the way down against the hard wooden door.

Suddenly, Merlin let out a cry of pain and Arthur immediately felt guilty.
"Merlin, are you alright?" Arthur asked worriedly, seeing Merlin lying in a pile on the floor, "Merlin?" There was no response, so Arthur quickly ran over to Merlin who was clutching the back of his head. As Arthur went to help Merlin get back on his feet, Merlin snapped.
"Don't touch me!" Merlin shouted.
"Merlin I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"Don't Arthur!" Merlin mumbled as he pulled himself up still clutching the back of his head. Eventually Merlin regained his balanced without Arthurs help.
"You know you should go to Gaius about that." Arthur said, pointing at Merlin head.
"I will be fine." And that was the last thing Merlin said before he left Arthurs chambers in a hurry. But as Arthur turned away from the door, he heard a sudden scream. Merlin's scream.

Arthur sprinted out of his chambers as fast as he could knowing his friend was in trouble but as he turned the corner, he saw something that would never leave him. Stairs that were covered in blood
and a even worse sight of Merlin lying at the bottom of the stairs.

However, something that struck Arthur was that even though Merlin's scream had echoed among the castle, the corridor was eerily quiet. Another thing was that the kings heart was beating so loud out of shock and fear he could not hear anything, not even Merlin's breathing. Maybe he wasn't breathing Arthur thought.

"Merlin?" asked Arthur from the top of the stairs, as he expected there was no response. Arthur could barely walk down the steps to his servant, knowing only moments earlier had he fallen down them. Slowly, Arthur edged down the stairs, the journey seemed to last forever as he came closer to his friend lying motionless on the floor.

When he reached the final step, Arthur began to tremble as Merlin's injuries became clear. The back of Merlins head was bleeding heavily, his ankle seemed to be twisted awkwardly as if it was broken, and his face seemed to be cut and bruised.

"This is all my fault." Arthur whispered sadly to himself, "I'm so sorry Merlin, so so sorry." A tear burned in the corner of Arthur's eye, he couldn't break down now though, his friend needed him.

A/N I Would love a couple of reviews because it helps me improve my writing and it would make my day. Thank you for reading!
