A/N: I just felt like writing something a bit angsty and don't worry I'm working on my other is actually a test on writing Seto Kaiba and one-sided Prideshipping (if you squint). Sorry if it's a little AU. Read and Review.
Pride's Rival
He walked around like he owned the place. With his head up high and his deck fully loaded with ultra rare cards, he stepped onto the dueling platform. Three turns, that was all it took to defeat a boy with an insect deck. Two turns, that was all it took to defeat that mutt with the Red Eyes Black Dragon. One turn, that was all it took to defeat that girl that wanted to dance for the rest of her life.
But try as hard as he could he could not defeat the King of Games. The boy with the spiky tri-colored hair, narrow crimson eyes, and smirk, infuriated him to no end. The Death T hadn't worked nor had the numerous duels.
But maybe, today would be the day, that Seto Kaiba won back his Pride. But it was never to be.
The boy with the tri-colored hair pulled out his Dark Magician and defeated him. It actually had seemed like the boy had a relationship with his card. It was pathetic.
Their rivalry only increased as the days went on.
Kaiba hoped it remained that way.
However, a few months after that day in Egypt, he dueled his rival, but something wasn't right. The cards he used, the way he used them, the air that Yuugi had while dueling, he wasn't the boy with the crimson eyes. He wasn't Seto Kaiba's rival. That fact infuriated Seto Kaiba the most. He had lost his rival. The boy that had as much pride as himself.
Yuugi was just a copy ,an imitation, and Kaiba finally realized that.
All of his pride had returned, but his rival had been lost.
"Kaiba, it was good to duel you again."
"Again!? I never dueled you…"
" Who did you duel, then?"
"Someone that we used to know."
"You're finally admitting that he existed!?"
"No, i'm admitting that I saw a shadow that was never really there in the first place."
"You know I miss him too."
"…"
Kaiba would never admit it to himself, but maybe he cared more about his rival than his pride.
