On this island things are quiet and peaceful. Luke doesn't feel peaceful though; on the contrary, he feels quiet wretched to be honest. The weight of his failure with Ben. Always pressing on his heart.
If I go back I'd just make things worse. He tells himself things like this. Day to day to try to cope with the loss. Does it work? Depends.
One day he decides to do something he hasn't done in a while. He goes to the Cave. His footsteps echo through the cavernous space. Gray walls dripping with moisture. Sunlight spills in through a crack in the wall. He goes to it. The ground stretches out a few feet, suspended in thin air. At the end of it is a smooth, flat rock.
He goes to it and gets on it. He's an old man so he grunts with the effort. Darned legs don't bend like they once did. He sits on the rock and closes his eyes. He assumes the posture. Palms faced up. Resting on his knees. Clears his head of all these condemning thoughts. He relaxes.
A girl. He sees a girl. Dark hair. She's with someone. An old friend. Han! They're on a planet... no, a death star. Running... dodging blaster fire. Someone's chasing them... he's dark... threatening... He's Kylo Ren.
Luke opens his eyes. Questions swim through his mind. Who is this girl? What is Han doing with her? Why is Kylo chasing them?
He has a thought... a hope...
Maybe this girl could be the hope they've been waiting for.
He chastises himself for the wishful thinking. Nevertheless, he can't help but wonder... could it be?
