Written for Caesar's Palace Color Prompt: Pink.
I watch his perfect, gleaming hair in the sun as I walk behind him.
You know he's better than you.
No he isn't! I'm greater than he will ever be!
Or are you, sweetheart?
I grit my teeth at the word he always uses.
"Don't call me sweetheart," I mutter to no one.
Do it. Mash up his insides and carve out his skull.
You know you want to.
"No, no," I mutter.
I have to save that until the end of the Games. He trusts me now. That's valuable.
But all's fair in love and war.
I fight my insides.
I wish people would stop telling me what to do.
Look at him, leading you around like you're some sort of pet.
It's not fair!
Offer him one of those pink flowers. He won't know it's posinous.
The voice trickles inside me like venom slipping into my body.
They were never on my side. They're trying to trick me.
Nevertheless, I longingly look at the beautiful pink flower just a few feet away but I know just one touch could be the death of me.
But why not take the easy way out, darling?
He leads us all through the forest, until we come to a hedge.
Don't do it. Past there is dangeroussssss.
The voice hisses like a snake.
Stay here, where you can be nice and safe.
I tell him we must end our alliance, for the better. He goes through the hedge.
Now what are you going to do?
I shrug and begin to walk back through the forest. I notice the beautiful pink candy birds with their sharp beaks pointing out, beady eyes trained on me.
Pet the pretty birdies. They're your friends.
I walk up to the tree and give a soft smile to the birds.
That wasn't so hard, was it?
But suddenly the birds eyes go red and their pink feathers don't look so welcoming anymore. They caw angrily and lash out at me, then fly high into the air and come down in a whirl, stabbing their sharp beaks through my neck.
"You lied to me!"
Sorry sweetie.
I feel remorse as the pink birds seem to smile evilly as the crawl on top of me, their fine coats shining in the sunlight.
Pink always was your color, dear.
