Why on earth did I take this job?
Jeremie Belpois stared at the immense amount of paperwork awaiting him on his desk. The thought that he would be working overtime for the next couple of weeks instantly crossed his mind and he groaned inwardly. His eyes felt like they were burning and his head seemed to be spinning. It was, to sum up, an absolutely perfect day at work. Jeremie could practically see the eye rolling expression that would be on his face at that moment. Sighing, the blonde started tackling the huge pile of documents, hoping at the back of his mind that someone would come and save him soon.
Being the Business Director of a huge ass company had its perks, but Jeremie was starting to think that he should have considered more carefully before taking on the job. He glanced up to check the time after what seemed like a mere 30 minutes to find out that it was already 6 o'clock. Great. Just fantastic. Another day gone down the drain.
Jeremie got up and stretched. A trip to the coffee machine seemed like a pretty good idea. The muffled ringing of the office phone from his secretary's desk caused him to groan and sit back down.
"Mr Belpois, you have a call on Line Two."
Jeremie reached over and lifted the phone to his ear. "Hello?" Grumpiness was clearly audible in his voice.
"Why, someone's in a bad mood."
The blonde felt a smile spread over his face as the word "SALVATION" flashed in his head.
"Hey Lita."
"Having a tough day?"
Jeremie grinned, "No, not really."
"Lie all you want Jer, but I think I have a little something here that's going to make it all better." Some shuffling was heard in the background before a tiny voice squealed into the phone.
"Dada?"
"Hello pumpkin," Jeremie cooed into the phone, "And how are you today?"
"Dada!" Jeremie could almost imagine the smile on his little girl's face as she spoke a bunch of baby talk.
"She's been asking for you all day. Coming home for dinner, Jer? I'm cooking your favourite."
"Brussels sprouts?"
"What else?"
"Oh, I'm definitely coming home then." The blonde heard the tinkling laughter of his wife over at the other end.
"Alright, I've got to go now, your little pumpkin's about to knock over a vase. Love you, Jer."
"Love ya too, Aelita." Jeremie sighed as placed the phone back into its platform. He grabbed the picture frame at the front of his desk and leaned back into his chair to gaze at it.
Why on earth did I take this job?
Jeremie smiled. "For them, of course."
With the answer to his previously self-asked question, Jeremie Belpois returned to his pile of paperwork, driven by only one single motivation.
The Brussels sprouts were just a little extra bonus.
