Writer's Notes: I came across this while perusing my old fanfiction blog - it stemmed from a Sina/Dexio coffeeshop AU prompt sent to me by my best friend. I fine-tuned it only minorly. I'm weak for Sina and Dexio; I wish they had more fics.
Disclaimer: I don't own Pokémon.
Dexio rocks up to the coffee shop at 6 am and orders an unsweetened latte with a tiny dash of cream and four shots of espresso. He sits dead center in the middle of the café and lets all of the other customers buzz around him - he likes to be around people, even if it is a little chaotic. Although he's decently talkative, he's pretty subdued in general, and he loves getting caught up in the frenetic buzz of the café. He always has a book in hand; sometimes it's an advanced textbook on evolutionary theories, and sometimes it's just a graphic novel. He says hi to everyone who sits in his general vicinity and gets up for refills multiple times.
Sina, on the other hand, is the antithesis of subdued. She's in a huge hurry to get her coffee (a caramel latte with coconut milk and extra sweetener) and head off to her next destination. So as Dexio's standing there, waiting for his second refill of the day, he accidentally picks up Sina's cup and takes a massive sip.
The realization of his mistake is twofold:
First, the onslaught of sticky caramel and excessive sweetener hits his taste buds like a truck and he practically recoils at the idea of someone drinking what is effectively the equivalent of bottled maple syrup.
Second, an absurdly pretty girl practically snatches the cup out of his hands with a resounding "Excuse you?"
Dexio makes a face, and he's not sure whether or not to attribute it to the painfully sweet latte or the aggressive little lady standing in front of him. "This is yours? How can you drink this? How do you live like this?"
After offering up his most profuse apology for accidentally swiping her awful latte, he buys her a new one – "With a chocolate chip cookie, please," he informs the barista, before smiling at Sina and informing her that it's to "Make her day a little sweeter." She rolls her eyes and says thank you, but it's an honest thank you this time. His response was above and beyond what she expected, and it brightens her mood considerably.
It isn't until later in the afternoon that Sina realizes she can't get that surprisingly chivalrous dorky fellow out of her head, and so she quietly decides to return to the café bright and early the following morning in the hopes of seeing her charming nerd once more.
