Wufei walked the halls of Treize's Luxembourg mansion in silence, looking at the empty walls and sheet-covered furniture. Une had decided to sell the house after all, claiming that it was too much to take on with her other responsibilities, but she and everyone else knew that was just an excuse. The memories of Treize lingering in the palace was what drove her away.
He looked at the only painting still hanging, a portrait of Treize, resting his chin on his hand and staring off to the side."I will remember everyone of those soldiers that died for me." "I don't believe you." "Wufei, I don't believe you know this, but I believe you are beginning to understand me."
"Are you happy now?" Wufei said. "You should be. Because you won." Though he had defeated Treize, he felt empty. He had devoted himself so intensely to fighting the OZ general and now he had nothing else to do with his life, no goal to work for. In the end, Treize had ruined him.
He moved on reluctantly, turning away from the portrait. He still had other things to do there, things more important than himself. Sighing, he knocked on the door to Treize's bedroom.
"Who is it and what do you want?" Une called.
"Wufei Chang," he replied, taking a deep breath.
Une opened the door. She looked at him suspiciously, her eyes red-rimmed. "Why did you come here?"
Wufei handed her the bouquet he had been holding. "I heard you liked roses."
She looked down at the flowers in his hand.
"I know that you loved Treize," he continued, " I wanted... to apologize to you. I understand if you're angry with me."
Une took the bouquet from him. She still didn't smile, but she fingered the roses gently. Then the dam broke. She set the roses down and lunged toward him.
He stepped back, thinking she would attack him, but her arms wrapped around him and she put her head over his shoulder. Her shoulders shook and Wufei could feel her tears soaking into his shirt. "Onna..." he almost said, but thought better of it. He embraced her, just as a friend would. "It's ok, " he said as she tried to wipe her eyes. "Just cry."
