I just had this little annoying plot bunny in my head all day and the only way to get rid of it,I decided, was to write it. Hope you guys like it. Review please. This was originally part of Morganville Vampires Pairing Oneshots, but I decided(since it wasn't a request)to make it just a regular oneshot.
The wedding guests consisted of a mix of vampires and humans, and they were playing nice, surprisingly. Even the older, more important vampires-Oliver,Myrnin,and Amelie-were there, although lurking in the shadows. The groom and bride had already exchanged vows and said,"I do" and were officially Mr. and Mrs. Michael Glass.
The Maid of Honor and Best Man were on the dance floor, along with many other couples, moving in time with a slow-dance song.
"Claire. If I said I was leaving, would you come with me?" Shane said in a very low voice and straight into her ear so only vampires close-by would hear. Shane knew this and had waited until the perfect time: when no vampires were within earshot.
Claire leaned back to look at him, puzzled. "What? Shane,it's Michael and Eve's wedding. We can't just leave it."
He leaned close and whispered into her ear once more, even lower this time so she had to strain to hear his faint words,"Not the wedding. Not right now. I mean leave the town."
It clicked together at last and she said in hushed tones, bewildered,"Where would we go? And what about Michael and Eve? We can't leave them. Eve won't leave without Michael and he can't come because of Amelie. She wouldn't let me leave anyways. I know the town's secrets."
He shook his head,"Exactly. You know the town's secrets. We don't need her permission. We could sneak away."
"The machine would alert them as soon as we stepped outside of town," Claire countered.
"The old lunatic you work for trusts you. You could convince him to let you see the machine and I bet you-"
"Myrnin might think I'm a useful assistant but he hardly trusts me that much. Besides,it would take time to disarm that part and not affect anything else and get it to arm the alarm back after a certain amount of time. And I can't betray his trust like that."
"There has to be a way we can leave,"Shane said, growing frustrated.
"Even if we found one,I can't,Shane. I have school. And my job," Claire reasoned.
"You mean,Myrnin,"Shane said with an edge.
"Look,I have no feelings like that for him. Okay? This is all there is left to say:I can't leave. I'm sorry. I want to sometimes, and sometimes I don't,but it doesn't matter because I can't." She answered with a sort of finality.
"I know. I know. I'm sorry. I just want to leave so bad it clouds my thinking sometimes. I'm sorry," He sighs before pulling her close.
"I know the feeling. It's okay. Love you."
"Love you too."
When the song finished, the two went to find their housemates and friends, and they celebrated for a few more hours until the bride and groom left for their honeymoon. And as everyone left,Claire noticed a quite intersting pair leaving together. Amelie and Oliver. Shane noticed as well and raised an eyebrow as he and Claire left.
"Who cares who they are leavng with? I've got you and that's all I care about." Claire said, smiling,as they linked arms and went home.
Please review. Thanks,
